    Same.

Once came out to the driveway and saw the glovebox from my 4Runner was open. Only thing missing was an old ass tom tom GPS unit I hadn't used in years (since the 4runner has sat nav). They didn't even take the (even older) cell phone from the center console, lol.

That's just not a road I'm willing to cross since "civility" is completely subjective.

after having my last truck stolen and stripped/burned to the ground I dont fuck around with chance. Alarm has built in tracker/ kill switch if not disabled, and i always make sure its locked/alarm on. Will walk back to check on door locks.

I wouldn't kill the guy who took my truck given the chance, but fuck having to go through carpooling, paying the tow yard to crush the truck, and paying for a new one/ figuring out insurance, financing all it.

idk maybe i could be wrong, but id be more prone to smash out a window with no alarm versus a blaring red light

I lock my truck too, force of habit maybe. I've fortunately never had anyone break into any vehicle of mine over the years *knock on wood*. But I also make sure nothing is visible to the eye.

Might be a bad habit but I keep my compressor and some tools in the back, but covered under a black moving blanket. I would be pretty pissed if that all got taken though it's just a cheap Craftsman set I picked up from Sears a few years back. I don't like not having a basic tool kit in the truck in case I need it.

for what it's worth, I got suckered into paying for the stupid dealer installed car alarm when I bought my truck. Was a huge rip off but it does have the bright ass flashing blue LED when locked, supposedly kills the starter if not disengaged before attempting to start the truck. May be a deterrent may not. Probably is for opportunists, but anyone keen on getting something they want out of it or stealing the whole thing won't let that deter them.

I think it being a 5spd with the extra 4wd shifter probably confuses and deters most young wannabe car thieves more than anything

A while back my wife's civic was in the driveway and they tried to steal it. Fucked it up pretty good, but somehow managed to not be able to walk off with one of the most often stolen vehicles. Made a real mess of the wiring, bent the steering column, etc... Some real geniuses there...

I would have rather they just took it and hooned it somewhere and burnt it to the ground. I'm not the one towing it or sending it to the wrecker. Just cut me a check for the replacement, and I'll go get a new car tomorrow, but instead I had to sit there are deal with the repair shop AND insurance and be out a car for the couple weeks or so they had it.

Not gunna lie and say I don't have some emotional connection to my Tacoma. I said the same thing about my 1st gen 4Runner, until it went all Christine on my wife and the motor blew. She said if I got rid of it, she'd match the money for a dirtbike. It was on craigslist that day, lol.

I'm not asking you to cross a line. I just don't have sympathy for someone who does bad things and pays for it with their life. I could also work on my compassion for human life and should study Buddhism cause it isn't healthy. It's also hard seeing people get away without punishment.

least you had a vehicle. Like i said they took everything from me, AND i had to pay the tow yard for them to scrap the truck. with stolen vehicles, you pay the shit, not the tow yard. IF you refuse, they tax ur registration 5-600 bucks next time u register. U get fucked twice, once by the shit head who steals, and another by the tow yard, then the third ass reaming comes from the dealer or private seller u dump more money to for another vehicle. Trust me, i would have rather had it in shambles, but returned. Could have thrown it on cl for 2-300 bucks as a parts truck

It's a pain I'm sure. Strangely, three of my vehicles are 1999 models with one 1998. Nothing new or flashy by design.

The devil couldn't steal this one unless he towed it away. The weird immobilizer trips up legit owners if they don't understand to avoid attempting to start the car with the driver's door open. Then it takes a trip to the dealer to get the computer reset. Locksmiths don't have the software to get past the weird 1999 model immobilizer. However, they can deal with 2000 models on.

99 models were a cursed year for strange electrical systems. That seems to be most of the ones I end up owning.

Weird to see fuel boil come about on a modern vehicle with pressure capable tank.

For sure. There is a link to one that caught fire and exploded -- maybe in Colorado in the high elevations.

It worried me until I figured out that I have the old-style charcoal canister under the hood like the 1st gen Tacoma.
