Update: truck is driving fine right now tech opening a case with Toyota to document the issue. They still have the truck as of right now. This morning around 10am I picked up my rental for 2 days ( if they keep the truck longer they will add more days to my rental). The only truck available was a Colorado (enterprise) those who hype up the Colorado as being much more responsive, better shifting, way more powerful etc. Are exaggerating dramatically. Anyway that's for a different thread...20210614_113552.jpg

Picked up my truck yesterday. There was a communication issue/ code tech could not read he contacted Toyota and they explained how to proceed. After driving and simulating how it happened tech could not replicate the issue. Fuel pump work was rechecked along with a full vehicle inspection . Codes were cleared after several days of testing (per Toyotas request).
I'll report back if it happens again.

As a former Owner/Operator of a auto repair shop, We had a slogan when new parts fail. "New doesn't mean good"
Every now and then you get a bad part. Just sucks to eat the labor time to replace it again, parts manufactures would never compensate us for time lost for their bad part, just a free part. Good client communication would most likely result in a slightly frustrated, but understanding and returning customer.

Understood the tech was compensated by Toyota cooperate as they asked them to do further testing than necessary. No parts needed replacing just overlooking to make sure all was as it should be. Happy with the outcome and do not anticipate this to reoccur.but if it does I will post it here.

There have been documented fuel issues with Toyotas almost catching on fire. I have a hole in my fuel rail, air intake was melted…have replaced new air intake, injectors, fuel rail, coils, and a new Fuel Pressure regulator. I’m at a loss, it cranks but does not start. new ECM next? Do your research, I hope you guys fix whatever it is before it goes bad. Good luck!

Im on my 4th fuel pump (currently at 135K miles).

Around 100K miles the truck wouldnt start, when it started it sputtered, wouldnt idle, and kept giving P107B codes along with about 6 other codes relating to the fuel pressure system. Dealer had the truck for around 2 months, replaced "fried" fuel pump ecu (No clue how that happened), along with more fuel pumps, and high pressure rail sensor, and it still wouldnt work...one day the truck started up fine and we never figured out the issue. This happened during the winter (On the colder days it didnt start, anything above 40* it would startup just fine).

Today (35K miles later) Im having the same issues... sometimes the truck starves for fuel during startup, and once the truck idles and warms up after 5 minutes then it drives fine.

Im not convinced the fuel pump is the issue... I think it has to do with the high pressure system or somewhere near the engine with the fuel delivery system.

Will report back if anything new happens but the whole fuel system on these trucks is garbage...

haven’t exact issues as listed above. Just had fuel pump recall done 3 weeks ago. Was having issue before the service but now seems WAY worse and a lot more frequent. Looking for any help or answers. Codes clear themselves. Toyota charged me $200 for scan to tell me I had bad gas This has been going on for months now and I don’t want to throw parts at it. Looks like it could be a bad pressure regulator. High side pressure is WAY below the target pressure.

We found the culprit... it ended up being a worn signal wire (split in half from rubbing/corrosion) in the wiring harness going to the fuel ECU that caused all these issues.

The location where the wire break was is the main wire harness that runs on the driver side, right by the cab mount where it rides along top of the frame. This part of the harness is clearly exposed to anything the tires will through at it

I think I’ve located it. It’s I. A bitch if a place if so. Sorry for the grainy pic, it’s kinda dark from raining here and I had to zoom but I think I found it. Was it roughly along the frame where the door hinges are? About that far back?
