Any idea why the new Toyota lift kit is not offered on DCLB?

As a marketing director, I have done some research into the purchasing habits and demographics of mid-size truck purchasers. What some have said is true; older males and farmers purchase long beds over short beds. In fact, farmers exclusively shop and purchase long bed mid-size trucks over their short bed counterparts.

Another demographic that purchases long beds are people who go camping; they like the extra space for sleeping. However, as it should be obvious, people who go camping will also purchase short beds as well, but they have found that those that purchase short beds will also later buy an RTT or simply sleep in a tent on the ground. An interesting correlation with campers who buy long beds, it has been found, is that they are not adult sized and can easily sleep in a long bed Tacoma; hence not purchasing an RTT or sleeping in a tent on the ground. Therefore, we can assume that non-adult sized males that purchase long beds would not be able to hop into the drivers seat if the truck has been lifted. Toyota not making lift kits for long beds is simple demographics.

Geez, when i was looking for an access cab tacoma last year, every dealer had 2 or 3 of those long bed double cab models on their lots among all the short bed double cabs. Access cabs were the unicorn.

Why wouldn't the lift for the short bed work on a long bed? I would not think the suspension attachment points would be different?

OEM mods carry a lot of recertification baggage. Possible reasons why the lift isn't offered for the DCLB:
    • PCS/LDA/adaptive cruise doesn't achieve performance specifications due to different rake vs DCSB.
    • VSC can no longer cope in emergency handling tests.
    • Toyota didn't test extensively due to a limited budget/timeline and relied a lot on similarity with the Pro for regulatory compliance.

It fits without a problem, but due to the extra weight, they could not say, for a proven fact, that they would get the same lift height as the short bed because the toyota lift is not adjustable like some aftermarket ones. Corporations like Toyota go after proven data that can be replicated.

I might have gone that way if they still offered a manual transmission in the 4Runner.

    I would get a full-size truck before a dclb.

I would have considered a long bed if they made it with a mans transmission

Haha, not really in my case though. They serve 2 completely different purposes... Ones a 25 year old shitbox (that runs tip top) that I can beat the hell out of, get dusty and dirty, and it’s a full time camping/trail rig. The other is a nice DD, family mover, and work truck, that I can throw juicy trash in the bed that I wouldn’t want in an enclosed, carpeted SUV. I can also move mattresses, big TVs, plywood, etc... in the taco that I can’t do very easily or at all in the runner.

Completely agree. While my wife’s 4Runner is a primary family vehicle, I do everything thing I need to do with my short bed. Dirty anything, hauling long pipe/boards, camping gear/firewood and anything else that wouldn’t be ideal for the back of the runner.

Both vehicles have been perfect for our family and our little adventures.
