you need a 6" drop bracket lift, and super swampers. But even after those awesome, and totally worthwhile mods, you will still feel like you're driving a sedan.

Nope. I've gotten into to some great places on the stock suspension. Run it until you find a limitation.

I second just going up a tire size. It will fill y up ur wheel wells real nice and give the truck a good stance without taking too much of a hit to mpg

OP, do you need a lift, probably not. You may want one which is cool and if you got the cash flow, have at it. Your money, your decisions. There are people at work who said they needed a diesel. One co worker has a 2500HD diesel and doesn’t tow a thing with it. He wanted it because it “looked” cool. Anyway, have fun with your truck stock for awhile. You’d be surprised on what it can do…

I have two identical 2012 trucks... except one has a 2" factory lift and the other doesn't. I like the ride height on the lifted truck, and the visibility, but in corners at speed it leans rather suddenly which is a little disconcerting. Getting in and out of the lifted truck is less comfortable. As far as going out on the trails, I've never been anywhere that the lift did much that I couldn't do with the unlifted truck. The axle is still the part of the truck most likely to drag on something and the lift doesn't change that.
I'd have to say I like the trucks pretty equally, but for different reasons having to do with the lift.
That said, I wouldn't spend money on a lift, especially since I've heard so many horror stories about them when I worked at dealerships. I doubt you are much concerned with the warranty on your suspension if you are considering a lift, so that's probably not an issue.

You only need a lift if you have a small wiener.

I plan to lift mine in the future. :anonymous:

I lifted mine with the Dobinson's kit like 2 inches all around and now wish I hadn't. Really the only reason I went that tall is because it was the lowest I could go with an off-the-shelf upgraded replacement leaf pack (I really didn't want to screw with an add a leaf).

I'm wishing I just went with my gut and got a custom leaf pack made and then grabbed the fully-adjustable Dobinson's setup so I could keep the front lower but have full adjustment with the shocks/struts.

I still may do that, but spending another $2500-3000 on work I've already done once is really not all that exciting. But I'd really like to have as cushy of a ride as possible while daily driving and then be able to stiffen it all up when I'm towing our travel trailer.

As much as I think 285 tires look cool, I just don't want to make this thing any slower or make the gas mileage any worse than it already is in its current form, before even commenting on 285's impact on towing performance. Dropping it back down would probably net me back my 1-2 mpg even with the beefier 265 tires I've got. The wheel well gap just kind of bothers me at this height with these tires as well.

Boy, you sure do need a lift. Make sure to drive one of your front tires into a ditch to flex the suspension and then post a pic on Instagram so everyone can see what a rad offroader and totally not a phony you are.
