I know that dealers are empty with no tacoma's. I read that this is due to a chip shortage. But according to this website, the taco is on pace to sell the most units ever in a year. Currently its ahead on 2019 sales. So why none on the lot? Even in 2020, production was only down 10k units from 2019. I dont think 10k units would reflect empty lots in 2020. If the lots were basically empty for 20' and 21', it doesnt seem like a chip issue (or a plant shutdown in '20) according to the numbers. Seems more like a supply and demand issue. They cant build them fast enough.

You are right they can't build them fast enough. I ordered my new 2021 Tacoma TRD Sport with Premium Package on May 14 and was told by dealer should have it by middle of June which we just passed or July got my fingers crossed. No chip issue but shortage of chemicals to make new parts is what the hold down is. Is it true or just dealer BS.

When other carmakers don't have product to sell people turn to the ones that do have product. Toyota will probably be getting a lot of new customers and many will stay.

Mostly 340,000 miles of wear on the '96. A sharp looking Gasshole for the '21
I had a long wait for my new one. I ordered it the day after Thanksgiving 2020, Got the call that it was in on Aprils Fool Day '21 - I said you better not be joking. The truck was built in San Antonio TX and the Texas power outage fustercluck played a role in the delay. I only got one key with a chip due to the chip shortages, no second key yet. During the wait my '96 radiator cracked, that took some time to source a new one that fit. Having said all that I'm glad I got it when I did.

I read GM has 30,000 Trucks parked at a quarry near their plant in Mexico waiting for those chips to be able to ship them out. Glad it is not Toyota feel sorry for the GM owners waiting for their new trucks

There were issues with chips. Do not know about other makers, but Yota has enough now.
Low interest rates. Tons of "free/borrowed from kids and grandkids" money. People upgrading their rides.
Suppliers and assembly plants affected by the WuFlu shutdowns.
I was not going to get truck for 2 or 3 years, but I know interest rates will go up soon, so I am doing it early.

There's a shortage of just about everything currently. Waited a month for my motorcycle, waiting almost four for my wife's, not to mention every day materials, parts, etc. that we need. Prices are up, economy is down.
