metra 99-8214tg install

Just got this kit for double dinanybody have any pics of how it goes togther? I cant seem to understand these directions.

 

Just need a pic of this installed so i can figure it out

Not sure on what you mean i hate to just order a diffrent kit i just baught this thing for 35 bucks but thats what its looking like inam gonna have to do

 

Gotcha do you have a pic of the back where it attatches to stereo?

 

If you can't figure out how to install the dash kit you may want to avoid stereo installs in general. It only gets more complicated from here.

 

Oh im sorry i thaught this place was to help people i can learn pretty quick and would rather not pay someone to do it i know how to wire everything just need a pic to go off of because the instructions are really bad

 

Instructions are not bad at all for the Metra kit. Just follow the directions from page 3. It has pictures of the exact kit you are using and shows you the exact part in the pictures. I can't see where you are getting lost at.

Same instructions according to Metra when you search on their site. It's a color difference as the link I posted ends with B for black, and yours is G for gray. The part hasn't been changed since they came out.

If you are having this many problems with the dash kit I would HIGHLY suggest you go and pay someone. Ask any local high school kid to show you how or something. it's 3 plastic parts and 4 screws for the HU.

 

Im missing the factory metal brackets for the sides but ppl say i dont need them i dont really understand why you have to talk crap man im saying i need help obv dont understand and i wanna figure it out thaught that was what this place was about but you wanna talk crap for people asking questions im sure its real easy i just cant seem to understand or have a missing part thanks

I'm not talking crap. If I was I'd be calling you and a dumbass for not being able to install a simple dash kit. Which I'm not.

I'm being honest. If you are having this many problems with the dash kit I would be extremely worried when you go to wire up the harness. You could burn your truck down.

Stock brackets are not used for the dash kit. The kit has EVERYTHING you need and only mounts one way. You need to find someone to teach you what to do, or do it for you. As of right now you've had WAY too many problems installing plastic mounts and moving further down with your current skill set is not a good plan and will cause damage to your truck.

 

Well, 5 years late to the party, I hope to offer some advice to those that bought the kit.
The OP has a valid question, and is accurate in his/her assesment of the quality of the instructions provided by Metra with this kit. I can't fault metra too much because it is an either/or kit, and they won't know which route you'll be taking. The good news is that I doubt there will be too many folks that want this kit, because most users will purchase their stereo first, and then the dash kit to suit their stereo afterwards. In my case, I wanted to leave my options open because my original stereo was on "Pre-Order" and like a fool, I envisioned the turnaround time to be just a few weeks, but just in case I wanted to have my options open, and as such, I bailed on the pre-order and took what I could find after waiting for too long.
If you have a double din like i purchased, you will need the metal brackets off your toyota stock stereo. from 7 pages of instructions provided by metra, only half a page are devoted to double din, and most of the 5 or 6 bullets are irrelevant or useless.

 

Ok that image is a little big, let's try smaller.... In my case, I did not succeed on my initial attempt. After the first attempt where there was major gaps, i unscrewed the brackets, after tracing where I had placed them for reference. The Image3 shows where the brackets are after moving them. You can see how far back the bracket had to be moved. Notice the bracket is almost covering my "RH". Still not perfect, but you'll have try different settings depending on where your gaps are, and how the brackets play with your new stereo.
