Below is a link to the part - I got mine from a parts seller on ebay who doesn't have any more at the moment. But I paid $58 shipped.

The install was easy - only tools needed were a drill and a rivnut gun. I got the cheap kit from Harbor Freight that worked just fine.

If you've never done paint/finish work, this is the perfect piece to learn on, since it is small and no blending/feathering is required like on a fender or door. To smooth out the clear coat, I used 3000 & 5000 grit wet sanding pads, followed by Scratch X 2.0, and finally a polishing compound from Meguiar's.

Nice! Yeah painting I've got down. Restored an old '90 Bronco that basically needed painted on every salvage yard part I found haha. You used exactly what I did on most areas. I might've went 5000 > 3000 > 1000 wet sand but Scratch X and Meguires Compound will do the trick for interior and exterior really. Thanks for the tips! I've gotta get this thing switched out

My door is still in working order but I want to be proactive. Fluid Film or white lithium grease? Thanks.

I use to hit my tundra's fuel door with chain spray lubricant or anything thats oil. Doesn't matter what you use long as its some type of lubricant.

I've yet to put any lube on the gas cap door. I do like your gas cap holder...

They’d just drill the tank instead. So much easier on a truck.

Awesome work! I'm going to attempt the same thing as the bottom of my hinge is cracking and about to go.

Some criminals aren't very smart or have a drill.
My yard sprinkler got stolen, who ever did it, just cut it right off at the end of the hose. I still laugh about it today. Take care brother.

Seems faster to cut a hose with a knife than to unscrew it. Also seems dumb to steal a sprinkler.

Criminals who are out to steal gas 100% have a drill. In fact I would bet that drilling a tank to steal gas was the top way before it made the news. Most cars have anti-syphon flaps to prevent theft, or have locking gas doors, so even before high gas prices the best method to steal it would be to drill the tanks.

Now a real criminal would drill the tank and install a valve, that way they do not destroy the tank alerting the owner that there is a gas thief in the area. If they installed a valve, they can take their 5 gallons, close the valve and leave. Owner wouldnt know they lost a few gallons, then in a week you thief goes back and drains another few gallons. Someone who installs 5-10 valves could steal gas for months before anyone even noticed.

Seems to be common on both 2nd and 3rd gens. We’ve replaced a half dozen fuel doors on our fleet trucks. Primary cause seems to be lack of pressure washing behind the fuel door causing the hinges to either seize or snap. Well kept trucks with significantly more kilometres haven’t had any fuel door issues. My properly maintained 16 fleet truck has 306,xxx km and hasn’t had this issue, yet a 14 with 189,xxx km has already had the fuel door replaced.

I think if you treat your fuel door same as the hindge's on the cab doors you shouldn't have a issue, or at least remember to lube them once a year.
