I think he has an idea of what you did. Sampson did the same thing after we nearly lost him about 18 months ago. The vet had him so drugged up on pain meds all he would do is hide and sleep. We didn't think pain was the problem as he didn't react to petting or holding. We continued the liquids under the skin via IV (my wife is a PA), wet food rubbed on his gums, and took away his hiding place to force him to interact with us. Took about a week of this before he really started to turn around. He was always close to me before, now he won't leave me alone and has been more affectionate toward my wife as well. Happy to say, he's going strong. Unless he sleeping in my shoes....

 

Starvin' Marvin stopped by today. He seemed upset that the box was empty.

 

We're training our kitten to do the same (to go on walks). My girlfriend wants to bring her camping, I said she'll be coyote food if we do.

She likes being carried?

 

She doesn't complain during car rides or baths and is constantly intrigued by the mystery of the courtyard and garage, so I think she'd be down for the occasional adventure, but my wife isn't so keen on the idea.

So what I've learned so far is... You're not walking anything. They're cruising around while you follow them around lol

He’s not much of a walker (for now) so he’s been great on car rides and camping. This was his first long trip and I was surprised how much of a good boy he was

 

Right on, that awesome! How's the litter box situation on the road?

 

My wife is likes to be aware of his bathroom schedule (just to know that he’s going regularly) and even on the road he will go around the same time.

The first trip we thought we could chance it and make it home but he ended up going in the truck... on my rubber mats, thank god!!

He’s not a vocal cat and likes to lay/nap on the car rides so when he keeps turning around trying to get comfortable we know he usually needs to go.

So we’ll pull over and find a quiet spot for him to go. Some times we have to scratch the litter a bit to make him go because of extra noise around us.

Even when we let him out of the house, he will come back in just to use the little box then runs back out. So we’ll carry the litter box with us when we travel. They also make cardboard litter boxes that fold down and are disposable as another option.
