5 lug, correct? Be careful in your used parts selection. Lots of differences in 5 and 6 lug trucks, particularly in suspension bits.

Yup 5 lug truck. It seems like aftermarket is all about the six lug machines and any five lug stuff is getting phased out. I’m aware of the suspension differences but the body changes caught me off guard. I had always thought the four runner would have been the same from the front seat forward but I sure found out otherwise. It seems like a lot of effort and expense went into the changes for very little change in outward appearance at first glance.

I think I learned my lesson about interchangeability. Trust the guy with the parts book!!

We have plates and insurance so I can legally test drive. First run was to the car wash to clean off all the dust and dirt from sitting in my carport for a month. It drives and stops great but there’s a huge flat spot when accelerating. I doubt it’s had new spark plugs or wires in the last ten years so that’s first on the list once I clean off all the farm mud on the engine. Maybe coils too. It has run a lot better before today for me so I suspect a humidity or moisture issue. It will eventually get up to speed if you are gentle with the go pedal.

I also have a turn signal issue. I can hear the flasher cycling rapidly on left turns but no lights. Right turns it occasionally does the same thing but if turned off and then on it works normally. I’m thinking switch but open to ideas. No hazards either for some reason once I repaired the broken wires to the front lights. Here’s some pics of its present state.

I have some of the brackets and a new bumper cover to install once I have the wiring all sorted out. I haven’t found a door yet. Does Toyota sell door skins for the first gen trucks still?
