Flat Towing 2001 Tacoma 4X Auto ---- with drive line disconnect

    2001 Tacoma Double Cab 4X Auto
    We are currently Flat towing an 86 4runner 5spd (for 17 years) behind our RV. My wife has back problems so the 5spd 4runner is no longer a good option for us. We just bought a 2001 Tacoma. Is anyone flat Towing a 1st gen Tacoma 4x4 Auto w/drive line disconnect? Looking for info on this. I Would like to be able to tow behind an RV.

    Toyota Motor Co. says NO
    Owners manuals say NO
    Towing companies say NO
    Some individuals say it can be done.
    If you had manual locking front hubs
    (Free Wheeling) or tow dolly and rear driveshaft disconnected you are still faced with brakes, turn signal lighting, steering and backing up.

    Thank you for all the feedback. I'm pretty determined to make this thing flat towable. I love my yotas. I met a older gentlemen at a campground towing a 99 4runner (4X4) auto/trans all stock with auto/hubs with the remco/superior disconnect. He had be towing it for years with no problems.
    I just picked up this taco 3 days ago. I got a chance to climb under it today to evaluate things. With the transfer case in (2 hi) like you drive it everyday her in sunny California, the drive line from transfer case to the front pumpkin does not turn. The cv front joints at the hubs turn obviously (because of auto hubs) but it does that no matter what.
    So from what I can tell (using a remco/superior drive line disconnect) this truck will be towable. Wish me luck.
