Imma girl my 1st Toyota!!

Hello, my name is Chantel. This is my first Toyota. I have an 07 Tacoma Pre-Runner!!
I love it!!
However , I believe my catalytic converter(s) are goin out. Sulphur smell, shes kinda gutless compared to normal. Granted I put 2200 miles on her last month...I have no clue what to do if they are bad! Any and all help welcomed. PS. I do most of the work on her myself, oil, plugs, etc..

Replace it. OEM is very pricey, but magnaflow makes replacements that are relatively inexpensive. I had a tundra where my cat got stolen, replaced with magnaflow and worked great. Others do test pipes so that may be an option, but that may present problems with smog.

 

Has your truck been parked for an extended amount of time? A couple of years ago I acquired a truck that hadn't been driven for a while, and it would smell of sulfur, especially going down long hills. So I was thinking the cat(s) might need to be replaced too. But I put a can of injector cleaner in and ran it, and pretty soon the smell stopped. 25K miles later and no smell for at least 20K of those miles.

I don't know if it matters, but V6 or 4 banger?

If it's not too rusted on, maybe you or a friend can find a low mileage used one in a salvage yard and replace it yourself.....but to be honest, I'd take it to a local muffler shop and have them diagnose/estimate replacing it if they find it bad. I'd guess the OEM catalytic convertor would be outrageous to buy. Good luck.

 

If you don't have a check engine light then your catalytic converters are probably fine. I don't know what causes that sulfur stink but know exactly what your talking about. I usually smell it if I'm behind a Nissan but I've seen other makes do it too. Could ask Google, it knows everything.
