Does the onboard GPS in the Tacomas have Topo Map capability?

I am not sure about the 2020+, esp on the CarPlay side as they have the ability to install apps like Gaia.

For us 2019 and older Tacos, I do not think so. That said, with mounts like the @FreshMexicanTaco 's DMM and some RAM pieces, you can get a nice, stable mount for phones, tablets, or whatever.

The breadcrumbs feature of the stock navi is kinda nice in an emergency.

I run a DMM with a $70 Amazon tablet paired with a Garmin GLO 2. All in the whole set up is under $300 and I can move it into my Jeep or take the tablet out and do route planning in the comfort of my couch, works great and if I lose the tablet or it breaks while using it at camp, its not like its a brand new ipad, $70 bucks and I am back in business.

I loaded the free GAIA app into my phone. The free version is limited to the GAIA Topo only. I'll give it a try when we pick up the "on order" truck.

I've never seen a topo feature on the stock Nav in my '20 OR. That and a way to see live elevation would be nice features to have. I do like that Forest Service roads are shown on it and the bread crumb feature saved my bacon a couple of months ago when I got turned around on some trails in a remote portion of the forest.

The stock Nav is actually pretty good for what it is, plus I generally have a handheld GPS with me in my desert bag. For comparison a friend of mine has a '20 Ranger with the FX4 package (very comparable to the TRD OR with Tech package my Taco has) and his factory GPS doesn't show any well-established and named forest or desert roads. I try to remind him of that as often as possible :D

The number of options on the subscription is really nice, including the ability to layer them. The main goal was better offline routing though. Gmaps offline let me down too many times and my other offline app (CoPilot) doesn't have as many roads / trails.

$35/yr (hopefully I can get another discount next year) is a bit more than I feel it is worth, but they seem to be doing great work in the background.
