So I decided to upgrade the straps on the tent.

Top strap that goes over the cover broke on me.
It was cold out and it was very weathered.

    Old top strap style...

New strap is much better! And all black.

Old straps that sandwich the tent together were a weak velcro.
The 4 straps had trouble keeping the tent tightly closed when it was loaded with blankets and pillows.

    Old side velcro straps.

    Old side velcro straps.

    New side strap style!
So much stronger and hold it closed tightly.

    New side strap style.

    New side strap style.
I left some strap at the top so the buckle can attach to it.
This way it won't flap in the wind and I won't hit it with my head.

All rivets needed to be drilled out; top and bottom.
It was a big pain in the ass but I think it's worth it!
There was lots to learn doing this but I think it is achievable by anyone.
Sadly I didn't get any more pictures of the install as I am terrible to thinking about getting some in the moment.

The loop that holds the ladder broke.
I fixed it by adding a larger washer and glued it all together. No pictures of final...

I just got them on Amazon. Both kinds have lots of spare strap to trim off.

Nice work! If you shorten the long end of that top strap a little where it will put that padding on the corner, it may rub the cover less on that spot. That's how mine came. Or, it may not do anything. Much better than the velcro straps or loops, though.

Wish.com has them too for real cheap, just gotta wait a month or two for shipping but a that time you forget about it and its a surprise when it arrives.
I replaced the straps on my RTT from the velcro to the teeth too.

Well I copied the old loop style and there hasn't been any signs of wearing for 4 years.
    I should be good!

Anyone that has the CVT single channel Mt. Hood know if a mattress that was 3.9” thick fit and be able to close it okay?

I saw a Hest mattress at an outdoor expo today that was pretty comfortable. Would like to get it but not sure if it would work.

Not sure what is meant by "single channel" but that's not a lot of extra thickness. Kind of depends how compressable the mattress is and whether you want to keep bedding in there.

the original CVT hard shell is a single channel, and the new ones are a duel channel. The main difference is that with the duel channel, you can leave your bedding in their. The single you can’t.

I’m wondering if anyone has tested the single. The mattress in the single is 3” thick. The mattress I’m looking at is 3.9” thick.

Have a blanket that about a inch thick? Put in on top of existing and test fit?
