All my rigs are purpose built. From crawling to camping. I also enjoy a nice stock truck for what that’s worth. Toyota’s are the jam!
I am similar to bear size, my ladder is suspect but holding :)

Just added toolbox and roof-rack to haul my fishing boat 100's of miles into the backwoods every week. Goodrich K02s, Bilstein 5100 front and back, no lift.
Gun no good when sleeping and shoot yourself or anyone nearby when in a panic in the dark.

Majority of humans killed by bears were either unarmed, or armed. Majority of attacks where bear spray was used resulted in no injuries.

I have 6 rifles. I have done about 500 solo remote trips in my lifetime throughout British Columbia. Always alone, no one within miles. I never bring my rifles. Two cans of bear spray when I hike alone. Much quicker to access and less chance to miss. So many hunters killed by bears. We have about 15,000 grizzlies in BC, and way more black bears. Black bears in my neighbourhood all the time, and grizzly mama and cubs 8 miles away just a couple of weeks ago.

Actually curious, not being a d*^k, how many bears have you sprayed? I have a respectful fear of grizzlies.

Zero. Two years ago had a large 400 pound black bear follow me for about a quarter mile. Bear spray in both hands, plus my 5 footlong walking "club" and my razor sharp moose skinning knife with 12 inch blade. He got as close as 150 feet or so, then left.

Another time a large male black bear trashed my backpack while I was waist deep fly fishing in Skagit river. He was 30 feet away. My bear spray was in the pack as no spot for it in my waders. He took my lunch and ran off. The bear spray was undamaged.

Freaky stuff. I practice using bear spray with several of my old almost expired bottles. Shoots about 40 feet and a wide spray. Even a trace of that in your face from wind is shocking. I know one fellow who used spray to fend off a bear. Google it, bear deaths in North America last 50 years. Mostly hunters, and hikers with no spray or other defense.

My father on a moose hunting trip did survive a full on charge from a grizzly sow with cubs. He did use his rifle to drop it at 40 feet. One shot chance. Had he missed, he would have been killed. My mother treed by a grizzly on another hunting trip. She was too scared to even take a shot from the tree with her old 303. The bear left after circling the tree and the camp spot.

Last year while fly fishing the Yellowstone in Paradise Valley, MT, I knelt down and accidentally hit the trigger of my bear spray. It sprayed the crap out of my thigh through my breathable waders. I thank god I was wearing them because had I been wearing shorts it would’ve been a much more unpleasant experience.

When faced with a griz coming up on you just calmly walk backwards saying “backing away… backing away…”

Oh wait, that guy who made that video playing around with grizzlies saying that later got eaten, and his girlfriend as well. Never mind.

This is true. Spray is far more effective.

Bear spray is good. A gun as a backup is better lol. Spray didn’t work here:

When it comes to hunters with guns attacked by grizzlies the hunters almost always win unless they are taken by surprise:

One of my closest friends lives and hunts constantly in Alaska. Him and his dog were charged by a large Grizz and he said the only thought that crossed his mind was, well, this is it. At the last moment the bear juked left into the brush and disappeared. He had no clue why it didn’t follow through with the rush but was obviously grateful it didn’t.

I have to say, Grizz is about the only animal I don’t have a fight or flight response to. Just the same as him, my brain says, whelp, it’s been real…
