Ever since cave men built the first automobile, they've needed three things to work; air, fuel and spark. Just like in ancient times, you can check all three manually. I would start there.
I would agree with the previous posters who suspect it sounds like a fuel issue. I have seen mouse nests block air intake and electric components die a slow and intermittent death as well.

Same thing happened recently with my son's 4runner. Unfortunately he jumped to fuel pump when it was a blown fuse (caused by a pinched wire). Good luck.

    Yeah.
That's pretty low miles for its age. Did it sit for a long time? Just wondering if it might have some varnish in the tank that made its way to the fuel strainer/pickup. But I'm with the crowd, sounds like a fuel issue.

Fuel pump, or possibly an alternator. Though I'm not sure if the alt would cause all the problems you're having.

My old 99 4R died in similar fashion - was cruising down the highway and all of the sudden the power started fading. Truck died while I was cruising at about 50mph and I was fortunate enough to be able to coast to a spot to pull over.

Apparently the 18 yo original Denso alternator crapped out while driving haha. Truck would start but then quickly die since the alt wasn't charging the battery. Didn't throw any codes for some odd reason. $0.02

Shoot some starting fluid into air intake .If starts you know you got a fuel problem . Then go from there

Why do you have a pimp under the cab? Running a new business? Merchandise in the bed?

Son's 2001 4Runner had the fuel pump under the driver passenger seat. Instead of removing the fuel tank, he just cut an access hole in the floor. After that, the pump change-out was easy peasy.

Don't know if you have this sorted yet, but my '09 had a similiar issue and it turned out to be the chip in the key. Wasn't talking to the immobilizer. Grabbed the spare chip ket and haven't looked back. My journey to that conclusion included replacing the fuel pump. Just fluke that I discovered the key being the problem.

My nephews impala ss wouldn’t start, found a blown fuel pump fuse, replaced and it immediately popped. Tried a jumper with a 30a fuse to check amperage draw, popped immediately. Pulled the fuel pump, he ran it out of gas, the wires in the tank melted together when the fuel pump seized. Replaced the fuel pump, showed him the melted wires and gave him a stern warning to grow up and don’t run his tank empty. Luckily the fuse popped and the gas tank didn’t explode.

I try not to let my gas tank go below 1/4 full for just that reason.
