The Beer Nerd - what are you drinking / brewing thread

This one is interesting, but Left Hand is always amazing.

 

Somewhat lighter fare with dinner, which was chicken fajitas!

Uh, yea… something something - it’s a NEPA.

 

Made the somewhat dubious passage on BC Ferries from Crofton to Vesuvius, on Saltspring island, where Birkenstocks and tie dye are Royal apparel.

Along with unshorn legs and sandals with black dress socks.

Apparently the sixties are alive and well.

Amazing dinner in a restaurant that is little more than clapboard built around an ancient willow tree

Local - Saltspring Island Brewing - Mt. Maxwell lager...nice and light, a hint of hops. Faulty glass, though. That first tentative sip drained it by 1/3.

Phillips Brewing (imported from Victoria, our seat of Provincial politics, sigh) Blue Bucks Ale. Very nice flavour, subtle hoppy bite

After that second one the Birkenstocks were starting to look sexy.

 

Bud Light Chelada

Oh yeah. I’m partial to the Modelo tamarindo picante chelada myself.

 

I’ve been meaning to try that one but, I always get the regular instead of the tamarindo.

 

I like beer

 

Well I been on an IPA and DIPA kick the last few weeks. I used to hate them…. but anyhow if you’re near Richmond VA they’ve got the goods



that said, voodoo ranger is a gross ass IPA.

Maybe you got a bad one. Along with most IPAs, I enjoy VR.

 

Not particularly, he’s more of a Miller Lite kind of guy.

 

After a day hiking Runkle Provincial Park, visiting a fromagerie, a goat herd (critters which, for the record, have a most distinctive bouquet on a hot day) and two vineyards, all in near core-of-the-sun heat (a record 34C) we FINALLY made it to Saltspring Brewing and then back to our Jurassic Parkish BnB...

Kudos to our host who have managed to convert a pretty ordinary farm back yard into a veritable jungle...greens of all shades, packed so tight you can't see a foot away.

But I swear there are raptors out there staring at me, rustling the leaves, waiting for me to drop my guard.

Raptors in Birkenstocks, of course.

The delightful young lady at the brewery insisted I take some sours home, suggesting that a couple would quench my thirst better than mere beer.

Okay, she was right...very nice. And sour. And refreshing.

 

Pretty good!

 

Gotta load up on this stuff, Santa Fe Brewing chicken killer. It’s amazing, drinks nice and easy for 10%. Barley wine inspired.
