I will always love my Tacoma’s but I decided to go a different route and trade for a Subaru Outback Wilderness edition. I will miss driving a Tacoma and the great community on this forum. My commute is a little longer now and family is growing so wanted something more efficient while still capable off the beaten path. Fell in love all over again when I saw this Wilderness edition.

hey - kinda of in the same boat. have a 2020 ORDBLB in Cement. I am curious of the outback you purchased. i am interested in the wilderness outback as well.. Coming from the tacoma - is there anything you miss from the truck? I do think in my use case the subaru would be better suited, but obviously the truck does have a ton more room - but i do not really take advantage of that room - and have only really offroaded once in the last 2 years! not thrilled with the gas mileage of the tacoma - but not really why i bought it. thought i would be using to do truck things...but alls i have been doing is throwing my surfboard in the back and going to the beach lol.

Curious what differentiates the Wilderness Edition from other Outbacks?

    Trinkets, or something substantial?

You know, kinda like the Pro vs lesser Tacomas.

I’m in the boat. Both vehicles are in high demand right now. I can’t find a Tacoma close to where I am. There is one wilderness. But again no deals at all on anything. A good friend of mine who is a Subaru dealer principle told me the same. Msrp only. I was shocked. I picked up a 21 Ascent from him for my wife 4 months ago and things were different. Got 3k off it. Depends if you NEED a truck or not I guess. I love the Ascent. BUT it’s not a truck. At the time when we got the Ascent he offered us 2k off any Outback on the lot. Not now though. If he did I probably would have got it. I may still if I can’t find a Tacoma.

I had no real choice. Tacoma was getting long in the tooth, and would have cost me a bunch of money to keep on the road. Exhaust (possible catalytic converter), brakes, tires, etc. Plus, the tin worm was starting to get to it, never a good sign. Newer ones are going for crazy money around here. So, sink a grand or two into it, keep it for another couple of years, and take a big hit on trade-in, or jump.

The Ford is 9 years newer, still under factory warranty, and a pretty good deal, especially considering used car/truck prices these days. I'll admit the Tacoma is a better looking truck, though.
And yes, that 3.5 ecoboost is one hell of an engine.

it is kind of like the OR to Pro, except Onyx to Wilderness. The big differences are a suspension lift, wheels, tires, a lower geared rear end and CVT. I can’t imagine they get better MPG than a Tacoma in real world given that my dad gets around 22-24 in his Onyx, they are quick, practical, and ride well though.
