I hate the light pattern of these TYC fogs. But oem is 450 a piece last I checked.

 

All I see are flood and spot optics so far.

 

The SSC1 will be indeed available with J583 Fog pattern, which is why I've shared some info in this thread!

A single 20W emitter from the SS3 Max is used. With continued refinement of the fog optic, the performance on par with an SS3 Sport! Pretty impressive with the size of this thing.

Not likely to be able to get warm white with backlit red. On the SSC2 the 4000K LED boards are only available with amber/yellow backlights. The only way to get white, red, or blue backlights is to select a white lamp (6000K).

It's a bummer because I would love this combo too.

 

The 4000k LED chip is only available in the Pro power level. From what I recall there is not a 4000k LED chip available that would equal the power/output as the chip used in the Max. I would like it too, but you have to consider that the people who want a 4000k color is few and far between. Most consumers want bling factor of a white/blue color as well which is why the market is saturated with those LED chips. People like us wanting a 4000k light are in a smaller niche market within niche market. My hope is more of a focus on a higher CRI chip being used. Most of the ones used in off road lights are around 80 CRI if I recall. Getting the CRI into the 90's closer to a halogen (100 cri) would make for a very nice setup! But those chips are very expensive and more limited at this time.

 

A couple of weirdos on Tacomaworld isn't a whole lot of demand. I don't know many people outside of this board that would even bother with an optic swap for the 4000K color.

I had the Baja S1 in the hitchpod and found that to be even a bit too blue and less neutral white than expected.



I sold it, but would consider another one if @MESO decides to make a hitchpod for the SSC1. Not sure whether I'd do a white light with red brake light or do the 4000K with no backlight hooked up.

To be fair the reason I decided to sell it was because the S1 completely blew out the image in the backup camera. Anything in the cone of light just became a white blur. I tried messing with the contrast in the settings but could not get anything livable. This was the wide cornering pattern.





I bet an SSC1 in wide/fog would work better and have a cutoff. Plus 4000K should be easier on the camera contrast.

 

Just curious, what is your placement and goals for the BD S1 or DD SSC1? If a DD SSC2 Pro will fit the location then you can have your cake and eat it too as those are 4000k.

Assuming the BD S1 (20w single LED) is anything like the S2 Pro (24w using 2 LEDs) then they probably loose output after more than about 5 minutes. Watch the Diode Dynamics SSC2 comparison video on Youtube, can't link Youtube videos on my work computer....sorry. But their findings were that after thermal stabilization at about 5 min of runtime the BD S2 PRO (2450lum per their site) was around the same output as the BD S2 Sport (1130lum per their site).

This is info from the video I was referencing above. The ones I'm mentioning are SPOT since it is the most consistent pattern to compare between them. The video claims to run each one for a few minutes prior to the test to ensure the light is operating at it's stabilized temperature rather than trying to optimize each one for maximum brightness. After all it's not like you're going to only use a light for less than a minute unless it's a reverse light.

BD S2 Sport - 24,000 candela
BD S2 Pro - 23,000 candela - Remember, this is supposed to be brighter than the Sport model. But after only a few minutes it's actually dimmer due to poor thermal management.
DD SSC2 Sport - 91,000 candela
DD SSC2 Pro - 97,000 candela

Now don't get me wrong, BD makes some great lights. But for the money and performance DD can't be beat currently. It makes me wonder if BD's thermal management is similar on their light bars and other pods. If that's the case I'd be curious to see if their other high power lights like the Squadron Pro, XL Racer/Pro, LP series or OnX6 suffer from the issue? Anyone got some to test the theory?

I’ve landed on TW through many searches while looking for parts/solutions/ideas for my 85 Runner. We’re actually in the market to add another vehicle and are considering a Taco or maybe a Tundra.

I’m in the process of building my kit bumper and was looking for road legal fogs… Holy cow, what a thread! I know I didn’t really have to, but I read or at least skimmed each post. I’m not sure what’s going to fit best in my bumper, whatever I do I’ll be fabbing something up to mount them, so I suppose just about anything will “fit”. Leaning towards the SS3 Max Selective Yellow or the Rigid 360.

You’re super close to me, I’m just up in Kirkland. I’ve got the SS3 Max in selective yellow and the Rigid 360s in selective yellow on hand if you want to drop by and test fit anything. The SS3 Max is the way to go for best performance.

Thanks for the offer! I may take you up on a little hands on. Admittedly I haven’t searched too hard, but are there dimensional drawings of the 360 4”? I was actually surprised how big the SS3 round is, but curious at actual size needed within the bumper. The kit I’m using is from NWTI, I’ll need to modify it for whatever I want to fit and where I want them to fit . A 4” round hole will be tight, if it won’t work, it’ll definitely be the max but in the regular square body.

My Runner’s currently on stands while I swap to cross over steering and rebuild the front axle.

I don't have the 4" round bezel for the SS3s, only the regular ones. But I run the SS3 standard bezel on my Gladiator with 4" round fog openings and there is only minor gaps at the top an sides. Bring it by if you want to mock it up.
