I have searched all over but I can't find anything that resembles this little button. Ideas? It's located next to the hood release and tire pressure reset button. I haven't pressed it - I'm worried I might eject one of my kids' seats or something :rocket:

I don't have an alarm installed, although when I bought my truck they tried to sell me one, but I said no.

    TIA!

Dealer add on alarm. They throw them on every vehicle and try to get you to pay for the actual service.

That's right, I remember them saying they had to "de-activate" the alarm or some such nonsense. Ok cool, thanks for confirming my suspicions. Now I just need to figure out how to remove this little pos...

Just start following the wires back where the dealer tapped into the factory harness. Don't be surprised if a factory wire has been cut and will need to be soldered back together and protected with shrink tubing. Do NOT attempt to repair the cut factory wire with a butt-connector.

Another option would be to remove the box portion in your pictures and secured it someplace under the dash out of the way. I did that with a similar device on my work truck which always seemed to get kicked when I went to release my E-brake (I use the tip of my boot to trigger the release and the stupid thing was right next to the latch).

Alarms usually come with massive wire harnesses so if you see one then that’s the answer lol

Better yet, some of these dealer installed security systems are actually pretty darn good. While I do NOT advocate BUYING or PAYING for it from the dealer, what you CAN do, is look at it, or on the window and you will probably see a window sticker or something that says protected by XALARM system or something. Then, google that, and you will come up with description, etc, of how it works. You can then obtain what you need to actually USE it. Example; WAY back in the olden days, when I bought my old 96 tacoma brand new, it had a device similar to this installed. I didn't notice it, and when they delivered to car out front to me after it had been "prepped", I could not start it! I went back in, told them it wouldn't start, and that's when they said they had to deactivate the security system. I don't know what they did to deactivate it, but afterwards, and later on, when I noticed the warning stickers on the window, I searched and discovered how it worked. In my case, and it looks like this security system you have, works very similarly, in that there is a small plug that you can carry on your key ring or whatever, that you plug into the port that is pictured. You can then start the vehicle. The vehicle will only start with that plug plugged in. Once it is started, you can unplug the plug and put it in your pocket or whatever. This is actually a pretty darn cool security system, as the vehicle cannot be started without the plug and cannot be hotwired, at least without a WHOLE LOT of work under the hood, which is not likely to happen. Mine was called a "ProLock", which has long since been bought out by another company. But the point is, that you might have a pretty good security system there that you can utilize, which sure beats some damn alarm that some people that sounds all the time and which, nobody pays any attention to!

Thanks for all the info/tips guys. I'm certain you're all right that it's an alarm; there is a sticker on the inside of the doors that says "Portfolio Protection". I'll look into it, and see what it's all about. I'm SO tempted to press that damn button, because button, but I'm afraid of what will happen, and result in lots of vulgarities.

I use to install these types of alarms, if you press the button, nothing will happen, it is deactivated.

Probably for the better in my case. Do you know if it can serve any purpose now that it's been deactivated? Thx!

Ah well, forget it then. I only have Cheddar Ruffles.

Thanks for the info tho, I'm glad it's neutral at this point, and I can't jack things up. I'll just leave it be.

if you want, you can take the bottom piece off and then you can unscrew the light, then unplug it and tuck it away so you don't have to see it anymore.

Yeah, I may try to remove the button, and just leave the wires taped out of sight behind the dash.

I would put tiny wire caps on the ends and wrap some electrical tape around it all and get it out sight. May want to disconnect the battery first just in case.
