How much do you reckon welded sliders stiffen the center section? Enough to warrant addressing the rear section?

I was wondering the same thing. My sliders are welded to at least a 3/16 plate that wraps around the frame bottom and extends from the front to just before the frame starts bending upwards.

My rear most mount is actually into the part where the frame rises, just in front of the front spring hanger. Ill have to double check, but I thing the DMZ plates terminate right there too.

Thats for damn sure. Boy I wish I had known about JD before I started building. Id be money ahead. They solve literally every steering and suspension issue with these trucks and in a big way.

I'm relatively early in my build, but I'm still re/un-doing my front suspension.

Just looked at mine and mine goes all the way to the the front leaf hanger also. pic from when I bought them in 2013. Looks like it may be 1/4 plate. Though it looks like it needs more plate towards the front.

Im sure sliders do reinforce the frame. However I dont see them doing a whole lot for actual twisting. I could be wrong on that though. Realistically the frame needs some additional cross bracing as the factory stamped cross members really arent all that stout.

I would agree that the frames are probably seeing some twist more than actual bending. I would not say that that is necessarily bad. The term flexing is just too generic.

    Mods? Yes, oh yes..
These frames are designed to twist and flex. Trying to make them do something opposite of design is gonna take expensive work, more material (heavier) and it's still a wasted effort because you'd be better off with a tube frame swap. And at that price point, ask yourself, is this really worth investing into this platform?? If it were me and to do this all over again, it would be a early 80's toyota pickup 4x4, TTB with a 4-link and powered by a sweet small displacement engine...I think there is a guy on here who has something similar.

I think there is a guy who told another guy: If you want to do more you better get a tow rig and a trailer.

If you need mounting points, leave some strips from the cuts and bend them back and use them for mounting points.

Got the shocks and bumps recharged and I’m in love with it, just driving on the road fees so much better. Also these bypasses are not much louder than a box of screws in the bed @81Trekker. I don’t see all the fuss.
