Fall of 2021 for a 2022, man... Again, I dont think you have anything to worry about. Deep breath...it's a Tacoma. With the exception of basically some bolt-ons, it's the same damn truck they've been making for over 15 years. There's no way a new model year with very, very minimal changes is going to be delayed a year - especially when it's a perennial sales leader in the segment and, to a degree, the market overall.

Out of curiosity though, what exactly are you looking for?

I think in the end I'll wind up with an Army Green TRD Off-Road DCLB 3.5L Auto. Fully loaded with infotainment options - carplay, heated seats, sunroof, etc. Might spring for the TRD lift and I'd love if my dealer will order the Trail wheels/grille and swap me and add on the trail boxes.

Why not just get the trail? I want the OR off-roading features that the trail is lacking and I'm suspicious that the Trail won't come in 6' bed. I might get a Pro or Trail or SR5 and build them out differently, really depends on how pricing works out.

I do know that in my area Texas, GS Toyota took off the TRD Pro from their build page a few weeks back. I have a deposit on a Lunar Rock from April that I doubt will come through. Considering that Toyota took the paint color off the website in the beginning of June and they removed the Pro kind of makes me feel like they are going to drop sometime soon. Then again if I change my zip to California you can still build a Pro as well as choose Lunar Rock.

I’m hoping that mine doesn’t come through and I can snag a 22 but at the rate of wait times I’ve seen on here it may be quite some time to get one.

Don't let haters chase you away.

For years I drove the same car for a good 10 years. I'm getting older and just having fun. I used to work with Ford, a tier-one supplier, and my Ford buddies gave me crap about "Japanese built car". Never mind 400,000 miles on it. Bought a Ford Aerostar. Nice ride, great Mom mobile (four captains chairs, easy to separate kids, and always walk to the back).

I loved my 3.5 Liter EcoBoost T250 Transit. No van should be that fun nor that fast to drive! Empty, it was fun to startle BMW owners.

I did a test drive of the Ford Ranger and liked it. Honesty, not a bad little truck, power, and acceleration were decent. 2.3Ecoboost will need walnut blasting at 60,000 miles ($600 at the dealer); I suspect a new Engine around 120,000 miles.

I had test drove the Tundra (too large) and Tacoma (boy, am I sitting in a box? Felt more like a cockpit, not a truck). I love the Tacoma, but not much payload. I had skid plates and rock sliders as I have a history of trying to drive over too tall of rocks. Long wheelbase, so pinching the rocker had happened on my FJ60. So those with a cap. Hmm, 950 payloads are reduced to 500 pounds. I still haven't put a winch on it. My son tells me not to, as it means I'll venture further down a trail than I ever should have (he wants me to get a Garmin Inreach so I can let him know where I am).

What edition are you looking at?

It's funny, there's the same group of haters over on the Bronco forum calling me an idiot for ever thinking about getting a Bronco if I wind up with a Tacoma. Same logic too, how does one replace the other? Not everything is an A/B choice.

Edition - for Bronco I had a 2DR Badlands Sasquatch Lux with Mod top ordered. Tacoma - Green DCLB 3.5 Auto fully loaded TRD OR likely.

Ok, so that's pretty much what I'm saying: there's nothing rare or special about that. There may not be many near you, but it's not like you want a rainbow colored diesel TRD Pro with Alligator interior...just widen your search and be ready to travel and you could probably have it in a month. As for the other things you want them to swap, also not a big deal as long as you're prepared to pay whatever the retail is for the parts/labor most likely.

And as for pricing, it's going to be about the same as whatever the comparable model is this year, give or take a few percent. Much ado about nothing...

There's 1 model for sale in the whole US that fits what I want and it's used and still $8k over MSRP if I built out the same model, ordered it from Toyota and waited. So I'll wait to save $8k.

My Tacoma was "middle of nowhere" Trinidad, Colorado. 700 miles from home, but well worth the drive. The irony if chains are readily available in Colorado and I thought "how often will I be dealing with ice storms in Texas". Made it home, next week was one of the worst Texas winter storms in history. Boy, I could have used chains to help shuttle people to/from the hospital.

Bronco production is in Wayne, Michigan. Ranger and broncos are built there. Most of the Ford Engineers I worked with had long since retired.

This was from 31 Dec 2020

Add to this Renesas (semiconductor supplier) used in some modules suffered a major fab plant fire.

Toyota long realized Semiconductors are their weakest supply link, so maintained a buffer and didn't cut back orders when the pandemic hit. Meanwhile work from home meant huge upswings for other industries, suddenly everyone seems to understand there are not enough fabs to go around. I know Ford has continued to build F150 waiting for chips to catch up (huge lots of completed vehicles lacking modules before being shipped out).

Anyone from TW near Wayne, Michigan? If so it would be interesting to hear their feedback.

The broncos are being built as we speak. The factory has been up and running for a couple weeks now

You don’t need to wait for 2022 for that. See https://www.autotrader.com/cars-for-sale/vehicledetails.xhtml?listingId=588813001
