I was looking at buying the Flowmaster Part# 17432, but this Scotty Kilmer video popped up on my Youtube feed and it basically says aftermarket exhaust systems WILL screw your car up. Is this true for Tacomas? That video scared me lol because I don't want to drop $600 on something that could potentially ruin my Taco. Thank you in advance.

Scotty is a sensationalist, click baiting jackass who panders to non enthusiasts who don't know any better. Plenty of people on here run aftermarket exhaust or mufflers without any issues. Do your research on here not watching that ballsack.

^^^true that. Scottie is a loose cannon.

however, some exhaust systems without proper tuning may take away low end power. Specially if used in natural aspirated applications.

Do you think I will have to worry about that with the Flowmaster I linked?

I don’t know specifically about this one. Check out the hp tuners and JFR equal length y-pipe threads for some good info on custom tunes and exhausts. You might also try to find out if anyone has run a dyno after getting this system.

Nothing about any aftermarket or performance exhaust system will ever 'ruin' your vehicle directly. I've had countless aftermarket exhaust systems over the years, from dirt bikes to four wheelers to motorcycles, cars and trucks, etc. Now, if you enjoy the sound/performance so much that you find yourself constantly in the throttle, that isn't always the best for fuel economy OR longevity. lol

Regardless, modifying the breathing capabilities of any internal combustion engine without properly accounting for the amount of fuel/air it needs to perform at its best, can provide a variety of results. Considering that our trucks use an 02 system and monitors fuel trims, I wouldn't hesitate to install a basic exhaust system(or the one you linked)if sound was truly all I was after. Worst-case scenario, get the truck dyno-tuned/re-flashed if you truly want to be on the safe side and make sure the truck is running ideal fuel trims after installation.

modern vehicles have closed loop tuning and ability to change fuel trims and timing. freeing up the exhaust wont do anything to "ruin" your truck. toyota themselves offer the trd exhaust.

the OEM EPA setups are drsigned to work together within Engineered parametres

when various sensors are out the ECU can operate within those parametres

    CEL codes follow

    parts are replaced

look at some of the tuner / fart cars running around.............

    lots of noise

    maybe......... Maybe increased performance ?!?!?!?!?!?!

the tell tale ‘ black bumper ‘ !!!!!!

the EPA mandate excercise demands the engines have been ‘ Leaned ‘ out !!!!!!! ( cant be argued )

so Adding ‘ fuei ‘ helps to an extent

    YET

the ECU gives up on metereing/ compensating ( idle - redline ) simply because almost eveything is out o whack !!!

    true there is MORE noise

MORE Giddy Yap!!!! .............most at WOT

a visceral DYNO seat o the pants 1st person success
