Greetings members !!! I just ordered my first Toyota Tacoma and have a question. I have heard from many sources that these vehicles have inconsistent throttle and over-shift (Hunt For Gears) to much. What brand of Tuner and mapping software would everyone recommend, (OV, Hyper, Superchips etc, etc) and where is the closest place to Joplin, MO that I could have someone help me get that installed? Thank you for your consideration and looking forward to future discussions on this forum !!!

Don’t believe everything you hear, drive it first before you worry about it.

I think the newer ones are probably fine. I've got about 1600 miles on my 21 TRD Sport and it doesn't really hunt, but it does like to upshift early, especially on the highway, so you just have to give it a bit of gas and it downshifts.
I would have preferred manual, but I wanted the long bed and for my wife to be willing to drive it. (I've had manual cars for years and even though I've taught her she would never drive them)

Drive it a few weeks and a few thousand miles before deciding.

Yours may be just great as is.

Welcome aboard...I never heard of that issue. My dad had 3 Tacomas before his Tundra and only issue he had on the last was a recall on the chassis. No issue w/mine. (Only have 400 miles on it) Get it, drive it and see if issues are present. That being said, I use to tow a camper w/ my Chevy Colorado and used a "Hyper" Controller w/ that. Worked awesome.

I'd say that what soloz2 relayed about it wanting to upshift early on the highway is true...but the trucks are pretty smart now and the computers seem to learn your driving method (read this somewhere). So drive it for a bit before you get into tuning/mapping.....unless you just want more power (and who doesn't!). Good luck and welcome.
