Please tell me the new adjustable seating is relief?

I NEED to know,

Are the new adjustable seats more comfortable for hips/tailbone?

I haven’t found a post addressing the switch to the new adjustable seats when you’re so miserable in pain. I read suggestions on mods and switching to a 4runner (I guess I could do this, has anyone found relief in a 4runner?).

…I don’t know how much longer I can sit in my vehicle (‘18 TRD OR). Man do I miss the seats of my ‘99 Avalon XLS (best seats ever) and my ‘15 Tacoma SR5. Wtf was I thinking when I traded the ‘15. The hip/tailbone pain has become more and more extreme over the years/miles. Yes I tried pillows, not enough space between legs and the steering wheel.

I know you like details; 38F/5’4”/150/yes I can touch my toes (I read some posts suggesting flexibility is an issue). Maybe my hips are too wide for the more compact interior of the 3rd Gen. My 5’10” 190lbs husband with narrower hips loves the seats of the ‘18 taco. He previously had a discectomy and driving long distance is not normally the nicest to him but these seats treat him well. Husband has a work truck, Doesnt need the taco.

I like to keep vehicles stock so I didn’t want to to modify, but I am to the point that I; 1. Modify 2. Sell it and drive my ‘08 civic until something more comfortable is available (empty lots with already sold vehicles that I can’t test drive being delivered).

I rambled. But, Please! someone tell me that being able to adjust the seat has improved comfort.

I know these posts are likely annoying for some, I hate bitching about my truck. I guess I should be looking up seat measurements/dimensions. I’m just miserable and need to see some light at the end of the painful butt tunnel (..sounds gross but whatever).

 

I'm interested too. I can do 3 hr trips, anythingg longer gets very unfomfortable. 18 OR w leather.

 

I installed Seat Jackers from Desert Does It on both front seats. Although I have a 2020 with the power seat it made both the passenger and drivers seat much more comfortable.

 

From the sound of it, some rear seat spacers might fix the issue:

To test, remove the two rear seat bolts, place some washers or wood under there. Anything from 0.5in to 1.5in thick and see what feels best for you. If you use washers and longer bolts that can be found at autoparts stores, you can try a short test drive in a safe area.

If it feels great, order up the height that works best for you. @7r41lbr34k3r 's spacers allow you to stack extensions to get the right height.



Of course, the 2020+ power drivers seat would give you infinite adjustment options.

 

I thought 2nd/3rd gen were same interior dimensions and same seats.

 

Crazy how different everyone is. I frequently drive to southern California from AZ non stop. Never an issue. Drove 13 hours straight from Colorado, only stopping for fuel.

 

I second this ^^^ - I don't think people believe how much of a difference the Seat Jackers actually make.

 

maybe they are.. hmm, I definitely need to look up dimensions. these seats feel and look smaller. Maybe the 3rd gen is narrower at the back/butt area.

idk. Mad I switched. Still love the truck just feeling like a giant Vajayjay.

 

I would try the spacers or check with a legit upholstery shop.

They should be able to modify the seat cushion insert to fit you better, and would likely maintain an OEM look or close to it.

 

The 3rd Gen seats are different. More bolstering that locks you in.


I like it, but can see how others can find it uncomfortable.

I'll third this. Came from a Lexus GS350 (some of the best seats I've ever been on) and was leery about the Tacoma, especially the manual barely-adjustable seats. Waited to get a '21 with the power driver seat and the first modification we put in was seat jackers for the fronts - huge difference.

And on a side-rant: pretty cheap of Toyota to only even offer power for the driver's side - our 2016 4Runner came with both fronts powered.

 

All... this item ( Everlasting Comfort ) is the best. Your tail-bone will reside in that opening so no pressure is on it - google it and get one, better yet get two one for you and one for whoever is riding with you - they'll thank you for it.

 

You can't compare the Taco features to the 4Runners. We're the the entry level pickup while the 4Runners are mid level SUVs with four below them in the pecking order. It weird to think about given how similar we are otherwise.

 

I have a 2020 with electric seat. I found it OK. On a whim, I ordered Desert Does It front seat jackers and I can tell you that it made a big difference in comfort for me. I do 5 hour road trips taking my son to college and do not have any issues.

 

Welp, I'm sold on the seat jackers. Hopefully there's a 4th sale going on!

 

Desert Does It front seat jackers helped me, there was just no thigh support. It seemed that all my weight was being supported by my butt bones and heels. I could only drive an hour or two without getting achy and squirming around. I drove 683 miles in one day last month, couldn't have made the trip without the seat jackers.

 

I was having odd knee pain. Been driving my 18’ for 3 years now and couldn’t figure out why I could barely walk without a knee brace and Motrin.

put 1” rear spacers on my drivers seat.

Pain was gone in 2 weeks.

 

Seat comfort is definitely a personal thing. I have the power seat and I find it to be pretty comfortable. Certainly not the best I have ever tried.

Wife has a 21 4Runner Limited and the seats are definitely more comfortable than my Tacoma.

I have a bad back and for me the ability to adjust the seat is critical. The power seat allows me to adjust it exactly how I want it for maximum comfort. It also allows me to change positions on longer drives which also helps.

Is it possible that your condition has just worsened with time?

If you want to keep the truck modify it like others have suggested. If not trade it in for something that is more comfortable. I hope you find relief. Being in constant pain is no fun.

 

Confused. Some say rear Seat Jackers helped. Some say front helped. Is there really that much disparity?
