Trees on the lines. The manual check that @BarcelonaTom67 mentioned is done 100% in person visual by either guys on the ground or in a helicopter. We have a buddy who works on the gas side and he's had to partner up with line workers so they can get about restoring power as quickly as possible.

I believe the longest we were shut down on our node was 6 or 7 days. It was brutal but we weren't dealing with heat at the time like this.

It's all in response to the fires and picking someone to blame. It gets political so we won't go down that route, but fwiw the Paradise fire was caused by trees connecting with lines. The electric company is on the hook for everything regardless of nature being a factor so they shut everything down preventatively till the wind reaches manageable levels.

Down in the valley it's usually heat driven blackouts, but in the hills it's definitely the wind and you typically have a few days warning that it may occur.

Sounds super sketchy; odds in you favor with the right lawyer I'd think.

Interesting. we just let it buck up here. Not much for trees in alberta near lines so not much of a problem here. When i grew up and lived in New Brunswick it was very common to loose power due to trees on lines for 2 days to 2 weeks or more. They never preemptively shut it down. it would only go down if a tree hit it.

I'll go down a rabbit hole if I continue :anonymous:

Old infrastructure, lack of prescribed burning and shit tons of undergrowth. Many other issues. It's has been a recipe for disaster.

When we were out there a few weeks ago it was nice to see they were actually thinning some of the forest. First time in many years of going out to our camping spot that we ever saw logging equipment. Way overdue.

Yes we have the same issues up here as a lot of the same forest management philosophies were used in the forested regions as well. Things are getting better in some places some not so much. I'm sure you seen the large wild fires that were all over the news in 2016 I believe. Burnt the city of Fort McMurray nearly to the ground as well as every inch of Forrest around it. 100% was the result of forest mismanagement

I think I did find a good lawyer. He specializes in this sort of thing and even is in the middle of a court battle for another woman with the same problem.
