*Disregard the title of cranks that’s a mistake*
Got stuck in some water off roading. Some water got into the cab but the car is fine. All electronics works perfectly fine after a few days of detailing and cleaning truck still looks new. Now the issue… after getting stuck the next day or so my truck is taking 4-5 pushes of the button to start. Any ideas of what it could be? And a clicking noise happens when trying to start. My guess is water got into the starter? Will I need a new one? Or will it fix on its on eventually. My truck is a 2021 TRD off-road shouldn’t be taking 4-5 pushes of the button to start… but once the truck starts there is no issues. I posted the link below is the video of how my truck has been starting up.

If it turns over like normal and doesn't fire off, it ain't likely the starter.

What exactly is it doing when you attempt to start?

    Hi,

First thing, how high was the water? Any chance it got into the engine? It has been a while but maybe check the air cleaner to see if there is any signs of moisture.

And, what do you mean by, "4-5 cranks to start"? Is that four or five pushes of the button, four or five rotations of the engine, or?

Lots of help available here, but you're not giving us much to work with. Both @Mastiffsrule and @Woodrow F Call have posed important questions which need a response. Additionally, with respect to my question, more detail is required: You push the button 3-4 times, and it cranks, but does not fire and stops at the end of the cranking cycle, and then on the next press, cranks normally and fires, or is a longer-than-normal crank, or?

I would guess you've got water in a connector somewhere; there are a myriad of them low-down, especially in the drivers footwell area, as well as under the truck. Anyone know where the CPS connector is off-hand?

@Woodrow F Call when I attempt to start when pushing the button it just will not start it will make a clicking noise and not start I will have to click the button and brake pedal 4-5 times before the car starts.

@tirediron I just fixed my post. I added the video of what it does when I try to start the truck up.

Ok, something in the starting circuit....

The starter is just an electric motor that turns the engine over. You aren't getting to that point.... likely water intrusion has damaged something in the circuit to the starter..... starting solenoid is an obvious possibility, but you need to find the starting circuit schematic and see what all devices need to close before the starter will turn.

    Got to pay to play.

Kind of odd though, that it's this regular; normally with wet electrics I expect to see very random issues, or always failing, but a consistent 4-5 presses and start is unusual. I would get a scan tool on this and look at the codes you're pulling. Is the CEL on? I would also pull out the trim and carpet in the foot wells and do a visual on all the connectors (there's a bunch) and see if any are wet/corroded.

There is likely something still wet or obstructing a connection as your problem is regular but intermittent. I'd start by removing what you can that got wet and drying it out. Inspect wiring in these locations and troubleshoot a faulty connection.
