To all of the locals- are there any threads for "signing up" for trail rides with a group? I'm headed to CO at the end of next week to run the Alpine Loop and a few other trails. I'm driving solo on the road trip but would much rather prefer to run the trails with a small group if possible.

Before Covid we used this thread for those things. https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/upcoming-colorado-events.187907/
Alpine Loop area is a very high use trail system so if you get in trouble help/ gawkers are just minutes from showing up.

Keep in mind most of us all live on front range.

    Thanks.

I miss the front range, I lived there for a few years in the late 90's. Horsetooth Reservoir was my favorite place to ride the mountain bike.

Best time to run Alpine Loop is two weeks after the 4th. Most Texans have gone home by then.

What kind of night time temps should I expect at the altitude? I'm guessing I should pack some winter clothes ( long johns, winter weight parka, tuque to keep the ears warm,...)

Depending on the altitude, around 11-12k feet will sleep low to mid 40s and mid thirty's if it rains. Everyday is different and if you're camping at altitude you should plan on seeing all 5 seasons in a day.

I hiked through a hail storm for 20 minutes yesterday at 11,500'. Had my rain gear with me but no insulation, so I had to keep moving. Otherwise it was a great day out and everything dried out quickly.Queen's Garden 7:1:21.jpg

Use https://www.mountain-forecast.com/, plug in the nearest peak to where you'll be, and it'll give you the weather expected at 2 or 3 elevations

Thanks for all of great replies. I haven't made the trip yet, rear driveshaft issues w/ the 4runner have me off schedule a bit. I'm going to have to bite the bullet and just get a new one from the stealership.

I remember the daily summer T-storms that started around 3:30 and would monsoon for 20 minutes, then the sun came back out and dried everything up real quick. I guess the hippies got a daily bath in the summer...

Driver/passenger claim no injuries via the post I saw?

    Either way.
That spot makes you wanna go high left, but you need to hug the right ledge.
