Tying down gear in the bed, how do YOU do it?

I went to the dunes for the first time last weekend and had a BLAST but my gear boxes in the back all came loose while I was marauding around the dunes. I used ratchet straps to secure boxes to the sides of the bed. Does anyone have a way they secure gear that is more secure? TIA

 

Install D dings on the bed floor. The attachment points on the sides of the bed kind of suck.

 

Ratchet strap to bulkhead or diagonally strap down corner to corner.

 

Ratchet straps going over or around containers doesn't work for bouncing around and having fun off-road. If you are going to put stuff in containers instead of mounting it directly, the containers should have mounting or tie down points to directly connect to and at least two of them should be in opposition. I'm no loadmaster but it's worked for me for years. When I bought coolers in the past I always look for tie down points up to the task if holding a 100lb cooler while off-road.

 

I installed these at each bed bolt location and they are great. The bed bolts fit through perfectly. I've had mine for about 3 years, they have zero corrosion and still look new.

Add more D-rings, which attach to the frame, in the bed. Ratchet straps and macho adjustable bungee cords.

 

I have a cargo net that ratchets, Holds everything in place.

vvvvv this, you can put 6 rings in the bed bolts. Way better for strapping down a wheel or anything heavy.

 

How does it do with larger and or heavier boxes?

 

Does anyone else hate Ratchet straps too? They are always getting stuck or pinching my fingers. And don’t get me started on what the sand has done to them!! They are useful tho

I put in d-rings on the front two bed bolts and run chains from them to the back factory d-rings for multiple attachment points. The only thing I trust the bed wall loops up front is for securing the milk crates, which I put miscellaneous crap or 5-gal gas cans/20# propane tanks in.

 

Thank you. I forgot to mention currently I have the tonneau cover on the bed. Not sure if that would get in the way of using something like this?

 

Try salt water.. 6 months of strapping my kayak down and they all got a vinegar soak and lube session last week.

 

I used these o-tracks to tie my mini bike down, they are pretty solid.

 

I have something similar. Went banging around the dunes for several hours, zero shifting of my cargo, including some heavily loaded 5 gallon buckets.

 

Are those flush/below the bed corrugating or do they stand proud?

 

Not sure if this would work at high speed off road, but works great with normal driving.
