Fitting 35’s with minimal trimming NOW ADDING LONG TRAVEL AND 934 CV’s

This^^^. The bolt on aspect and the gain from it makes this a hot ticket item regardless of what you want your setup to be. I’m in for it. This gets me out of doing another jaz fuel cell/Toyota sender unit mating.

question: @81Trekker will there be an adapter plate to make it work with the Toyota sender or what?

I'd be in for the fenders most likely. I foresee bobbing the bed eventually on my truck so the fuel tank wouldn't work for me.

 

Guess I'll add inner fenders to the list now... Oh lord.

My .02 cents on the topic - Our trucks right off the dealer lot have a lot of frame flex at the bend under the back of the cab and depending on which year your truck is some are worse than others. Just think about how many times you've seen people post on this forum about their " shaky passenger seat "...even in a bone stock truck there is enough wiggle in the frame at that bend under the cab that it creates a front to back wiggle and when that seat is not occupied you can visibly see the seat back wiggle... a lot like the feeling of axle wrap where it is a front to back motion vs and up - down feeling.

Toyota changed the 2nd gen frame twice after the first production runs in 05', this is why you saw so many variables / fit issues with things like bolt on sliders over the years because the overlap and shape of the frame sections changed & rivet locations changed each time. So, the older the 2nd gen the weaker the frame is.

I'd bet if you talked to any race car /truck tech from Fast-n-Furious Honda guys to trophy truck bro's they would tell you that the best case scenario with a chassis is for it to be stiff as a brick and to let the suspension do all of the work.

After my truck was finished we noticed that the frame flex was noticeably worse but we seemingly didn't change anything that would affect that and we actually made everything we touched lighter including the fact that the camper shell is not back on yet. The front end however was turned into a teenager on Viagara with the LCA tab kit, bypass hoops and additional frame plating & the back end was already boxed and X member'd. So, now the front and back are stiff as hell which focuses all of the energy toward the weaker part of the frame.

Note - this is likely a bit worse on a linked trucked because the CO tower behind that weak point acts like a lever / fulcrum at that weak point.

So, the next step is boxing in the rest of the frame. After he templates my frame I think if Harry can get examples of the other 2 frame types into the shop he will be able to verify fitment of the frame plates and be able to sell a DIY kit w/ pre cut plates ?





I referenced Brian's truck recently ( the red 3 linked taco, same guy that helped @snowsk8air2 tune his truck ) he was smart and addressed these issues during his build, he even welded all of the overlapped C channel frame seams before plating the entire frame :

I'm not sure the more recent frames are actually and stronger though, or if they are it's being eaten up by heavier GVW. Put a jack stand udner the front cab mount, and watch the frame flex as you lower the truck on the stands, off the jack. It's 1/2" to 1" of flex just on the front of the frame.

 

@81Trekker If other trucks are needed to verify, I’m willing to cross reference my 2013 and a long bed for any differences.

 

I didn't realize it was a 'thing' but my 2019 with 20K has had the seat rattle ever since I rolled off the dealer's parking lot.

 

I’d bet the problem is worse for long beds since we’ve got an extra foot of frame right next to that weak point.

Only extra bracing I have is the crossbar on my leaf hangers.

 

I was just telling Harry about the bouncing feeling when I drive on concrete freeways. Just feels like the center section of my truck is a giant spring.
