I believe it varies by dealer, my dealer received their allocations around the 20th of every month.

Nov 29 to April 1, Texas cold weather fustercluck played a role. (Knoxville, TN) I saw my build on the dealer website marked as "coming soon" before the dealer called me. At the time I thought the delay was extreme, now I feel lucky. My dear wife suggested I just take what was on the lot, but I'm glad I waited for a manual.

Whelp, I got super lucky. Been waiting since April for an allocation for a PRO MT. Yesterday got bored and lookup inventory from Southeast Toyota and found a truck to my exact spec that was supposedly still available. I filled out the contact request info and waited for the phone call that usually follows saying the truck is pre-sold. That's not what happened. Drove 1.5 hours to the dealership this morning and purchased it. I'm not sure how I got so lucky other than great timing.

There's always hope fellow comrades. Keep looking at local inventory and maybe you can jump the line.

Waited 179 days for my Tacoma TRD Pro. Was definitely getting impatient, but worth it now

It is up every dealer. Many dropped out of TMNA discount program this year, or not taking it on Tacoma at all, does not matter if truck is on the lot or special order, since order comes out of their allocation. Local dealer would do it on Corolla, but not on a Taco. I am working with a dealer in a different state, and he is attempting to trade a truck on his lot with another dealer. Employee discount still applies to the trade.

What does the "allocation", mean ? I can understand # of units sold, then allocate more models of that.
I was at the dealer three weeks ago, was told then, 9 to 10 weeks.
When ready to leave, they came out and said this exact model you want to order is in our pipeline because of allocation. We sat down, checked off options, gave them a healthy deposit, left happy. Got an actual build date today, 7/26.

When is the build cut off of the '21's ? My plan was to order a '22. With what is going on into the auto business today, I decided to go for it.

@Builder1 Toyota's "allocation" means Toyota (as a manufacturer) builds vehicles and they specify what each dealer is going to get in terms of how many of each model and how each particular vehicle of that model is built (grade/packages/color). The dealer has limited room to deviate from those "allocations" they're given. The dealers are free to wheel & deal amongst themselves for one another's allocations so your dealer can get you the build you seek if they aren't allocated it from Toyota.

    I think that makes sense?

Still no allocation for me. Maybe on the next one. Tomorrow is the end of week ten of waiting.

Yes, makes sense. Why was there only one allocated ?
Previous to that, I was at another dealer, a hauler came in, with three off road 4X4 Tacomas. Sales rep says, those are sold. Same everywhere.

Allocation numbers depend on multiple factors (dealer location, size, how many of that model they move). i.e.: they're not going to allocated 30 Tacomas to a smaller dealer. As a whole, they'll build more (& as a result allocate) DCSBs than AC & DCLBs so those will appear on lots more often.

The monkey wrench in all this is factory shut/slow downs during the pandemic followed up by the microchip shortage and supply couldn't keep up with demand. As a result: the inventory on the lots got gobbled up without ~equal number of new vehicles coming from factories. Next folks were putting deposits on trucks that were allocated but not delivered or even built yet. And like someone hitting their breaks on the interstate: the accordion backup rapidly works it way up the line.

Thanks. Received an "estimated" build date, 7/26. The first build date was 7/14, with the temporary VIN.

I have ordered new GM and Toyotas in past years, never any issues.

Went by dealer this morning to check on progress.

    Deposit: 4/29
    Build date: 8/2 (San Antonio)
    Delivery: ~2wks later

Both salesman & manager @ counter all said they wished they had more buyers like me because I was up front about understanding it'd be 12+/- weeks between deposit & delivery. If only that'd translate to a discount or thrown in freebies!
