    I did the same for years with my BMW's. It was very convenient and very clean.

    That's pretty darn convenient. Do the oil lines drain back to the pan when you take the filter off? In other words, does it suck in air when you break the seal on the filter?

    Nope. Whatever oil that leaks past the filter's anti-drainback valve pools in the little tray when you loosen the filter.
