Does anyone know what navigation system or logic Toyota uses in their system in the Tacoma?

We have noticed many of the routes used can vary quite a bit from say Google maps, or how I would usually go on a particular trip.

Do they use their own program? Garmin? etc.

    Nope.
I do know that I question its logic quite often.
But then, I'm old school and started driving when the only navigation aid was a map and a compass.
If I have a particular destination in mind I find it on Google map, study the roads between me and it, get a sense of how to get there, and use my Taco's navigation only as a suggestion.
I love to keep making it recalculate the route!

How do we update the maps in this system?

Yep, Toyota has updated Micro-USB card and can find them on eBay. I bought this one and it worked perfectly following the directions.

Some of the reviews on those EBay cards call them undependable, some with errors and faulty information. Too bad the real OEM ones are so expensive. I like my 2017 card still, most of the backcountry BLM dirt roads I go on are shown.
