anyone else following the Champlain Towers collapse? I used to work in SE Florida doing waterproofing and concrete restoration and have done many a plaza waterproofing / concrete restoration job on numerous condos down there. never had the misfortune of looking at this disaster of a building though. Still do that line of work, not nearly the issues here in Charlotte and surrounding areas, as they have along the coast due to the proximity of the salt air environment and the way it accelerates corrosion. Very interesting stuff !! or not

It honestly doesn't seem like the type of thing that could still happen in the US. We just have such tight building codes and safety regs now. But I guess mistakes happen. I'm not structural but seeing that info from the 2018 report and them still not having taken action is pretty crazy. Even I know that if the concrete is spalling like they said, the rebar is rusting behind it. Especially in that coastal climate.

Being a chief Building engineer and having worked some of the buildings in Miami and Ft Lauderdale from 92 to 2000 I am surprised some are still standing. The salt air corrosion and footings of these buildings scared the shit out of me. One building on Brickell and SE 6th Ave 2 blocks or so off Biscayne bay was sinking that job lasted 3 months as I left. I had cooling towers on roofs of building that were well over 6 inches out of level and needed consent work at keeping them level for water flow. Never had pools as these buildings were commercial but had many fountains crack and leak into the parking decks. Have seen a lot of control weld joints on concrete tilt-up wall panels snap from shifting. One building had post tension cables snap from rust. This building in surfside had lots of neglect over the yrs and would have been cheaper to demolish.

Yes, this should have been acted upon long ago. I also think the 40 year building recertification is way too long of a timeframe, especially at the coast. I think it should be 10 years. I have seen 5 year old buildings rusting away from the inside out.

Any suggestions for a rear view mirror backup camera/dash cam for the SilveRAYdo? Or do you think most of the chinesiums are about the same? They seem to be in the $80 range.

Long time car friend of mine over in Dubai just got a new Land Cruiser (same engine as new Tundra), put 100 miles on it, slapped it on the dyno. Made 370awhp. Damn impressive. Couple basic mods and this thing should make 500awhp all day long.

That setup in a long travel Tundra would be super cool. How fast can Camburg put together a $20k suspension kit for one? Haha

I mainly need a backup camera. But they make units that work as both a backup camera and a dash cam.

    Something like this:
    https://www.amazon.com/【Upgrade】-Re...a&qid=1625248660&sprefix=rear+,aps,174&sr=8-8

I thought about upgrading to a cheap basic double din, but the Chevy would require a whole new dash piece to fit a double din. Thought maybe it all in the mirror would be cheaper and easier.
