I just passed by an area toyota dealer here the other day....must of had at least 15 new 4wd tacomas packed in one section right in fronts of the main drag.

All this because of a single chip? Do you know any more details on this, like what this chip's purpose is (i.e. what will the truck not be able to do)? I cannot imagine Toyota dealers buying specialty equipment for soldering chips in, so I imagine what he meant was an entire assembly will be removed and replaced, and the old assembly will probably be "recycled" at the manufacturer's assembly facility and then used as replacements on other vehicles. Must be something pretty minor, not related to safety or general operation of the truck.

    Yeah.
Yeah, I was wondering the same. I would think they would need to let consumers know what the vehicle is missing and how and when it will be taken care of. Not like, "Oh yeah, we understand you paid for that, but we didn't have it in stock so we shipped without it. We'll fix it someday."

I do not believe that. All modern vehicles have dozens if not more of microprocessors, not a single "chip".
It also easy to damage a microprocessor with static electricity (anyone who built a PC knows that). I do not think that TMNA would entrust dealer mechanics to install chips. No way, no how.
For what it is worth, I was told by Toyota production guys that they have all the chips they need. They are just catching up on back orders. I was given a few month time frame for a catch-up. I am just a random guy on the interwebs. Again, take it for what it is worth.

Let’s just say this was about the worst experience I ever had with a finance manager, so I don’t have much stock in his word.

I’m leery of the explanation I was given as well as other information shared by the finance manager.

Take it with a grain of salt. Just a finance manager mouthing off. I’m not confident in his word. Just wanted to share the message to see if others heard anything similar.

New cars/trucks have several chips...for instance the ECU, the camera system, the infotainment system, etc. each have their own purpose-specific chip. Which system are they taking offline to sell more trucks right now? I would really like more info on this development.

When the finance manager told this to me, I was a bit skeptical as I was with other information he relayed. Until I hear otherwise from a reliable source, I’m not taking it as reliable information at this point.

That does not compute. According to their (China) official statements, they've only lost around 3k people to the Cerveza virus.

And they're not handing out $trillions in cash for people to stay home and not work. on the other hand, We the people have handed out $$ trillions in cash and have lost over a half a million people. Logic would indicate they (China) should be GTG

And as for the rest of the world, they maybe in even worst shape than us.
But what do we really know...

The dealership here has no new trucks on the lot and only a few cars, looks like a used car lot. So glad I bought in December 2019 when the lot was full and you could still buy for a few k's below sticker. Paid 3.5k under MSRP for my 2020 SR SX. Not selling, plan to keep for at least 10 years.

I like how people are just going back and forth and citing something a finance manager told them. All of this happening on the internet where you can investigate things for yourself.
