Hey all! Last Friday night I got rear ended by my dumb brother who was following me and was on his phone. A stoplight turned red so I stopped and unfortunately he didn’t. His car ended up total but mine ended up pretty bad as well. I haven’t even had my taco for a year yet but I mean shit happens. I’m curious on what a repair for all this damage would probably cost. I’m also afraid they may total it for the frame creasing on both sides in the back where the hitch cross bar connects. The actual bed behind the fenders cracked on both sides as well. What do you guys think it would cost and do you think they will total my truck for the frame creasing? Nobody here can tell you because the inspections for damage are way more in depth than those photos can show. File an insurance claim. They’ll have you take it to a body shop, get estimates, and your brother’s insurance will pay

    I'm gonna say totaled.

But the way the world is right now my back up guess is 27k. When the truck is shaped like a banana, it's gonna be expensive, if it's fixed at all.

Would say 15k+ if not totaled with unforeseen frame issues

I'm not an insurance adjuster and I did not stay at a Holiday Inn last night.

I would say, file the insurance claim. Let the experts work up the quotes and repair estimates. A police report can help, be sure to get copies.

I think your brother is likely replacing your truck...........

The lesson is STAY OFF THE DAMN PHONE when driving.

That frame needs to be replaced. 100%. It could go either way, repairable or total loss. The value is so high it might actually be repairable. Do not let any shop repair that frame. Toyota does not recommend any of their full frames to be pulled unless it's "cold straightened." Yours cannot be cold straightened.

If they total it, don’t just take their first offer. Find your own comps and fight back to get the amount it takes to actually replace that truck in today’s market (and your local market).

Good deal. I mean, not for you or your brother. Really no one I guess is it in fact a good deal.

Maybe us if you create a poll and let us determine a winner of said poll.

Here are some pics of my brothers car if any one is curious. Damage could have been a lot worse. Just glad no one was hurt at all. No neck pain from whip lash and brother got out and walked it off with not pain either. Just a minor burn on his knee from the air bag deployment.

Frame looks bent, Did the bed bump the cab at all? if you need a whole bed, frame and cab damage it's a total loss.

If I’m being honest I am not 100% sure if it did or not. But from the few pics I do have it may have slightly hit on the bottom where the bed and cab meet. Not sure if their is a dent or just paint damage on the cab.

Hopefully it's not totaled, terrible timing to be in the market for a new truck. Let us know what the shop says.

Sorry this happened to your new taco. KBB for your truck is probably 40ish in today's marketplace so that may sway the insurance to repair it versus an older higher mileage truck. I know it's hard but just be patient and let the body shop and insurance do their jobs. Hopefully you have GAP insurance in case they try to offer you less than what you owe.

Were the police called or did you guys skip that part since it was kin who did the damage?

PS: holding your phone in my state is a big no-no now. Pretty hefty ticket for just that where I live.
