I would say your $8k for a replacement cross member was poorly spent then. If it was done correctly, it would be able to align no issues. I have seen a frame straightening table / bay thing. They have lasers and such. If you know what you are doing as a tech, it looks like you should be able to get it right. That is what it is designed for.

On that note, cant see something the size of a water melon on the road? Might need to re-learn how to drive.

    1) You were not going fast? 2) It was huge and you still hit it..

Some of these stories just don't line up.

I'm even having a hard time envisioning how it could have been bent at that angle backing up (leading edge is down)

No more off roading for you............

But seriously. Take it to a good independent alignment shop (unless you know a tech you trust at a big box)

Don't prejudice their work with comments on the damage, just ask for an alignment and see how it works out.

And if it's driving okay now, it should be fine to drive safety wise, but you may be eating tires. So do the alignment soon.

If it can't be aligned properly because of the damage, an estimate from an old fashioned quality body shop that does frame repairs will give you a good idea of where you stand in a repair to value ratio.

That crossmember is jacked. I believe what is said is what happened. If the truck dropped while backing into a hole it could easily crush that part. Truck weighs 4K pounds and that is engine end. The bottom of the crossmember has a whitish scraping to it. It looks like it hit a curb or cement causing the dent/scrape.

Nothing you can do for repair. If it aligns you could keep driving it. It will get worse/rust out over time. Otherwise it needs a frame. I would file insurance claim.

    OME and worth every penny.
As long as it drives fine, it's going to ne ok. I've seen worse under certain types of people's cars (cough women)

BTW, that particular pan is the pan for the transmission.

Get the alignment checked. If its out, then you need to repair the frame.

Wow that really took a hit. At one point you could buy that crossmember from Toyota. Maybe not anymore.

Here are some part numbers but I'm not sure if you can buy them separately (no part number). It looks like #6 is bent on your truck.

To answer the main question, no its not a safety concern unless the alignment was pulled out.

It will require a hefty repair but will likely be fine.

stating the obvious = Major Damage

IF .......no engine or transfer case .....transmission damage U overall are lucky

that crossmember does have a DIRECT Effect on the Front End

a Frame Shop could determine if its not True................ a simple alignment wont
