Hey all, I just have a couple questions and I know y’all would know more about it than my relatively inexperienced self.

    1. The steering wheel of my truck (3rd gen 2wd SR5 crew 2017 Tacoma) is starting to shake pretty good when braking at higher speeds. What could he causing this and what’s the fix for it? I had a buddy have this happen a while ago to his 2007 tundra and it was an expensive fix for him.

    2. The same truck also has been idling weird (in my opinion) for as long as I can remember. Once the engine is warm the truck will idle at ~500rpm then every 10 seconds or so it will randomly jump up to ~900rpm then ease back to 500 after a couple seconds. Is this normal or do I have an issue with my injectors or battery or spark plugs?

thank you in advance for any answers!

Edit: the truck idles like this only when in park. Once in drive it stays at 400-500rpm without revving randomly.

You are getting brake pad build up on the rotors.... pads and rotors need to be changed and caliper pistons and boots need to inspected.
The idle is normal.... it's the direct injection/cleaning cycle

The steering wheel shake sounds like warped brake rotors. Jack the front end up, remove the wheels, and if you don't have a dial indicator, make a pointer which will let you check the "trueness" of the rotors. Easy fix, cheap too.

Also, if the AC is running it'll do that.

I second the pad buildup or even rotor warp depending on driving habits.

Just a guess and where I'd start.

    1. Seems like it could be a few things. I'd start with the alignment first. It could also be uneven tires or warped rotors. But the mention of high speed makes me thing alignment. If you go to a tire service place and explain the issue, I'm sure they'd check tires, rotors, and alignment and be able to provide the best advice.

    2. Sounds like the cleaning cycle to me. Basically trying to clean the injectors and whatnot to prevent carbon buildup. What's a bit strange to me is that you mention it bounced to 900 rpm every 10 seconds? Does it eventually subside? How long are you idling before this happens?

No idea how well these tacoma brakes will hold up, but my 2001 tundra did exactly whats mentioned above every 20k miles. Oem rotors would warp and eat pads. Solved it by installing EBC drilled and slotted rotors using the stock toyota brake pads. Even at 60k miles still had plenty of pad life left.
