My 4wd decided it did not want to engage or disengage easily the other day. By easily I mean I can engage and disengage but it take a few cycles of the key to power with the switch turned on or off.
I can turn 4wd on by turning the key off turning on the switch cycle if the key on and off twice first time engages t case actuator second cycle engages front diff actuator. When each engages the 4x4 ecu makes a bunch of clicking noises. When I cycle the key the first time, I hear the t case actuator engage and both lights flash then I cycle again front diff engages and it’s is solid greed 4 hi! I cannot get into 4lo both lights just flash!

Now to disengage I need to turn the 4wd switch off and just keep cycling the key until the 4x4 ecu makes a bunch of clicking noises and the flashing 4wd light turns off.

I have tried a few things I took the front diff actuator apart and soldered the motor connection points and reinstalled. If I disconnect front diff plug both lights flash same if I disconnect rear diff plug, if that helps.

4wd switch was replaced 3 years ago, transfer case replaced around 285k (used) now at 335k. 4wd will sometimes engage while I’m driving sounds like a really bad whiring sound no lights come on but I can feel the tired grabbing while turning. I pull over cycle key until it turns off

I am currently suspecting the 4x4 ecu or an electrical issue.

how much different it it to remove and clean t case actuator?

Please help us with this sentence:

"I can turn 4wd on by turning the key off turning on the switch cycle if the key on and off twice first time engages t case actuator second cycle engages front diff actuator."

Can you re-state that in a way that makes more sense?

Did you check the Transfer case actuator? I just replaced mine over the weekend - though it had different symptoms than yours.

Yes sorry wrote it in a hurry last night!

I can get 4wd to engage by turning the 4wd switch to 4hi, then cycling the key on and off twice. This will engage it. I just pulled my diff actuator off fucker was full of water!!! Cleaned it out and reinstalled now I can click into 4 lo only lol. I think my timing is off how do I set that

I'd take that t-case actuator cap off one more time and check the metal trace in the cap. Sand that metal until you get it as shiny as possible then re-install. Don't forget to re-install that vacuum line.

Consider trying this, at your own risk and all that: Secure the truck from rolling - brakes and chocks. Place transmission in N. Get under truck and remove that cap. Grab that wheel and turn it to the left - counter clockwise. Far as it goes. That should be 2H. My truck got stuck in 4H and that's how i fixed it. There's a rod attached to that wheel, sorta, and that rod tells the Tcase what to do.

Once you turn the wheel, re-install the cap (AFTER you've sanded out the crud, see my post). Start the truck while in N and see what happens.
