I bought my first Tacoma yesterday, and I really like it so far. It's a 1998 Toyota Tacoma SR5 Xtracab 4x4. It's a project truck that needs a little work, but it's just going to be a hunting/spare truck; to keep from running up the miles on my diesel. Some of the projects I may need your help on. I'm ordering a few little parts pretty quick, but I can't seem to find anything to let me know if I'm actually missing a part. The previous owner had a couple of lights wired onto the tool box that I took off yesterday. When I was pulling the wires out, I noticed a hole in the back wall of the cab, inside of the storage compartment on the driver's side, under the back seats. It's perfectly round, like it should have some sort of grommet or plug in it. Does anybody know what I should be looking for? My internet searches haven't brought up anything, so I figured I'd come to the experts.20210520_064435.jpg

    Welcome to TacomaWorld
The lighting control converter module for trailer lights mounted on back wall and the hole is for towing lights wires.
Plug the hole. The old style converter was recalled and discontinued.
Tow lights are now plug and play under right side taillights.

This is the one I'm talking about. I haven't even had a chance to get the truck cleaned up yet. You can see where some mud has come in through the hole. Another question. I just noticed the bolt on the right of the pic. Is that for the rear seat belt? Neither of the back ones will retract. It would be nice if they were that easy to access.

Measure the hole and look for a solid rubber grommet to put there.

Temp you can put metal duct tape over the hole from both sides.

If you can't find the right grommet/fill plug, a piece of galvanized sheet metal about 1" bigger than the hole can be riveted to the body and trimmed with body caulk to seal it.

20210530_141212.jpg I got her cleaned up and waxed this weekend. She's not perfect by any means, but perfect for the hunting truck that I bought it for. One of my hunting leases is over an hour from the house, and hopefully this will be better than my diesel truck and a 4 wheeler or SxS.

Thanks man. I'm looking forward to getting it back. It's been at a local garage for the last month, waiting to get the exhaust manifold replaced. I picked it up today and brought it somewhere else. I should finally have it back tomorrow.
