I’ve had more issues with the rear drums on my 18 off road in 30k miles than I’ve had with three worked out Jeep’s that I wheeled over 100k miles. Discs are easy to replace and work on. Don’t know why the aversion to discs. My rear drums constantly freeze up and need 4low to break free. And feel like most of the braking is on the fronts. Go wheeling down a steep grade the ass end wants to come around. They work but meh. I’d upgrade the fronts before I’d touch the crap drums. Fwiw all Toyota’s vehicles brakes feel wooden

The braking system on my 21 Taco feels weak compared to my input pressure. I contribute this to the rear drum brakes.

I'm sure the drum brakes are " Great " boys will disagree and tell me I don't what I am talking about.

    Carry on.

FWIW, these god forsaken rear drum trucks have stopping distances very similar to their average passenger car counterpart, with 4 wheel disks..

Yeah it's weird Toyota still uses drums in the back but they seem to work ok... haven't had the freezing problems just yet but we'll see.
Drums do make a great parking/E-brake, same reason just about every truck that has 4 wheel disks still have drum parking brakes in the rear rotor hats.
