I've made plenty of poor choices in life sure, but paying thousands of dollars extra for a non functional hood scoop wasn't one of them.

Wow, I didn’t pay thousands extra. In fact I got my truck under invoice in the end. But, it’s you that seems to feel the need to attack those that think a sport is a good option. Jealous much?

I hear you. But on the opposite end of that spectrum, I didn’t need a locker on this vehicle. My only advice is to keep trying to make better choices, & work hard at it. Maybe one day you can spend a bunch of $$$$ on shit that you don’t really need & it won’t be as big of a deal to you. Just remember that your particular situation doesn’t apply to everyone. So until then, good luck.

You have an SR5 with a ricer scoop on it. You overpaid.

No, the fact that the Sport is a much worse financial choice over the Off Road is a situation that applies to everyone.

Lol. Not sure what 3rd world country you’ve been living in, but a lot of people can afford to make “poor financial decisions” for their own pleasure because they want to & it won’t affect their overall financial security. Some people even have to spend $$$$ in order to save $$$$… Like i said, good luck to you.

Please show evidence to both your statements.

I would argue that the off road may be a poorer financial decision. There are things, lots of extra electronics that may break, or folks will never use.

my hood scoop, which isn’t the only item that I bought my sport for, is used every day.

Hold my hood together, when off road hoods were peeling apart. It makes me smile when I see it. It makes my truck look good.

Oh and I couldn’t get a v6 double cab manual transmission with out stepping up to a TRD model, if not I might be in the sr5.

buying either the Off road or Sport is a poor financial choice when compared to base model taco.

I love my "17 Sport. Goes anywhere I need it to and rides and handles great! I'm an avid hunter, camper, and fisherman and have never needed to have a locker to get me to my destination or back home. I looked at OR and Pro but couldn't justify the additional cost for features I'll never fully use. I don't live in the mountains and I don't go rock climbing with my truck.

As far as the $$ goes I think I got every penny's worth with my truck. The only disappointment I have is that Toyota doesn't make a factory roof rack for the Access Cab models. I like the larger display screen, locking hard tonneau, V6 w/towing package, projector HLs, all of which came standard on the Sport. I also bought a 2017 to avoid all the electronics that became standard equipment in 2018. I work for a Toyota dealer and took some advise from several friends in sales and the service department.

Without airing down, the Sport can be punishing.
I find that if I don't do it for my own comfort, I do it for the truck. lol

I'd really like a few more paragraphs explaining in detail how much you don't care about my opinion.

Well we've at least gotten you to admit you made a poor choice in trim level, I'm glad that poor choice won't break you financially, that isn't always the case with poor choices.

One last time, little buddy… A “poor choice” for you isn’t a “poor choice” for everyone. The End.

I actually did a break down once. I wanted an OR and put the hood with the scoop. The hood was $600 and to paint it was $1600-2000. To get the Pro exhaust was about $700 and $800 for the rims The OR Tacoma I could get for 42-43,000. Just that alone was $45,700. I had other stuff also on the list. I wish I kept it.

OP - Take comfort in knowing that if you make the “wrong” choice, you can easily sell for close to what you pay. After all we are talking TACOMA, not some BS Nissan Altima.

Here are some examples from the same dealer. I agree with you that normally you can get money off of msrp on off road models more than pros. If you can secure a pro at msrp AND it's a manual option which saves you 3k from automatic than it is pretty close to the same or only 2k different. Especially since almost all models are going for msrp nowadays. Only really makes sense if you are going to spec out the trd offroad like a pro.

A poor choice is listening to people like you on the internet telling them what to buy, whether it suits their needs or not. Buying an OR because it has features you’ll never use is a poor choice. Did that last time and regretted the squishy suspension and rear diff howl and never needed those vaunted features that you think are life changing. I don’t have to worry about my hood flapping, fenders fading, or rear diff howling. But keep trying to convince the world that your choice is the only valid one to help your own insecurities.
