Hello all, newbie here. Been a Honda man all my life but needed a truck for my retirement here in New Mexico (Four Corners area) but the Ridgeline did not meet my requirements. So, bought a new SR5 in 2019 and have had some issues that are not making me a happy camper. Six cylinder, automatic, 4WD, engine code I think is FGR-FCK.

I came on here in the hopes someone can give me some tips. Here goes:

In June 2021, I got a recall notice and my fuel pump was replaced. But shortly before this, my 5 complimentary oil changes expired and so for the 6th, I decided to do it myself. Plus I was unhappy with what the techs did at the dealer. So got the special wrench for the filter, got the filter part number off the last invoice, and based on internet reviews got 6 quarts of Mobil-1 0-20W Extended Performance. Reset the Maintenance Required light via the message center when I was done, anticipating the next change to be at 5,000 miles.

Then I after got the truck back the Maintenance Required light came back on at 846 miles driven. The only thing I've been doing differently since the last dealer change was to use the ECT button much more frequently (this is the tow/haul mode button), or use the manual shifting. I live on a mesa with a two mile 10% grade and the ECT or 4th gear gives me better performance.

So now I'm wondering if either the fuel pump replacement of my new driving habit is causing this. The oil looks like new and is halfway between the min max marks. Everything else seems okay.

    Thank you.

That light is just based on computer calculations, I just reset mine when it comes on as my maintenance intervals never seem to coincide with light. In fact all our cars Toyota or not always show the indicator at weird times. At least the Tacoma is easy to reset.

Is it based on calculations or strictly mileage? I though mileage.

Honestly don't really know. I know some of our work trucks take into account how hard the engine is working. I assume Toyota might do the same thing

From my experience Toyota is going based on mileage. My F-550 and Silverado both account for engine use, not just mileage.

My first maintenance light came on around 4,500 miles, so i reset it. It recently came on around 9k miles, so i reset it again. Should be good for another 4,500 or so miles.
Only issues that were annoying were the traction, lane change, and getting too close bs that would come on falsely at times especially in bad weather...heavy rain or snow squalls. Turned them all off. No issues now.

Thanks to all. I have reset the Maintenance Required light without doing the change and we'll see what happens. My Honda coupe and sedan both seem to coincide with the 3000 mark more or less.

Remember the mileage when the light came on....it'll likely show again when thats double.
