Does anyone have a recommendation for a spray-in liner and a shop that does it? I'm looking at Line-X but I'm totally open to any other type as long as it's good stuff. Thanks!

Line-X is big money. U-Pol Raptor liner is a reasonable alternative and you can do it at home. Comes with everything you need but the compressor.
And you can get it on Amazon.

As with any spray liner, preparation matters.

Yeah, I got a few quotes and my eye balls almost came out of my head but I'm willing to pay for quality. Is Raptor liner as good as Line-X? What I'm afraid of most is that water will get under the liner and rust out the bed.

Like I mentioned, prep is everything. The same is true for Line-X. If you don't prepare the surface correctly, the material will not stick to the bed and you might experience issues.

I cannot answer the question of which is better.

I have been using Line-X for 20 years or so now. You can get an alternative in my opinion but you will not find something better. Bite the bullet. Get the Line-X and pay for the UV protection. Nothing you do at home will come close as Line-X sprays hot and dries in seconds. The UV protection on the other hand. They will want you to wait a day before you use it.

Can you comment on how well the UV protection lasts? I got a quote for $900 for doing the short bed with UV protectant.

Ouch. I got my short bed Silverado done for about $650. And I had my toolbox done also and I think I paid $300 for that. Mine is about 3 years old and with the UV still looks black. I have it without the UV protection on another truck that I had for 12 years and the liner held up fine but had turned gray by the time it was put out to pasture.

That is a CRAZY price for that truck. You might have to drive a couple of hours to a different Line-X dealer but it might be worth looking up the next closes one and asking them for a quote. Back in the early 2000's you could do a full size for $250. $900 for a short bed mid size is bat shit.

That was 21 years ago. Things change.

I was going to line the inside of my trailer which isn’t much bigger than a Tacoma short bed. Just the trailer, not the lid. That was a 1200 dollar bid. It would take 30 minutes or less to spray and the prep is to scuff the surfaces with a scotch brite. Maybe 90 minutes all in. Plus the material.

While I’m sure Line-X is good stuff and the dealers well trained, 1200 is a lot for a bed liner.

This won't be of any real help, as this company no longer exists....

Back in 2001 I had the 8' bed of my Dodge 4x4 coated by a local professional shop. They recommended a product called Arma-Coat. They explained that a few years earlier, the guys that started Line-X got into a fight, and one (or more?) of them split off and started a new company called Arma-Coat. The actual coating was basically identical to the Line-X coating, the difference was in how the preparation was done. What the shop told me was that Line-X just required the technician to clean and "rough up" the existing painted surface, so Line-X coating would adhere and stick properly. While the Arma-Coat company required a complete stripping off of all paint/other existing coatings down to bare metal, as they felt that would make for the ultimate possible adhesion/longest lasting bed liner.

After many hunting trips, loads of gravel/soil, lumber, etc., the Arma-Coating liner in that truck was still in top shape after 15 years, when I sold that truck. It also must have had some type of UV protection, as it never faded that I could tell.

The total cost of that application was $450... back in 2001.

Read and look, then realize it's a great deal compared to other products.

LOL, thanks for the lesson on inflation I guess. I got one done for my dad 10 months ago and it was $650 and my toolbox done just before that for $300 so I guess it depends on the area.

Here is a pic of what mine looks like after a few years of wear. Out in the NV sun.
