. CA has had brown out and grid issue for years. I’ve never had my power turned off purposely in 20 years of ownership. This past winter was a grid screw up for sure.

The utility asks people not to use excessive power when the grid is strained. You don’t have to, but they ask you to try. It’s like the most vanilla ask I’ve ever heard of.

I’m not sure how that’s triggering people that don’t live in the area. It must have to do with something besides the actual case study and the actual details. Jeez, people.

I will love having an electric fleet, but not until the state of the art matures some more. More miles per charge, increased availability & faster charging infrastructure, resilience from the rough and tumble of offroad use etc. I live too much in back of beyond.
If you enjoy buying gas, you strange.

I can't remember the last rolling black out in San Diego. Maybe a few power outages due to some drunk forgetting how to turn left and hitting a power line or green box.

My old man worked for sdg&e for decades and always said if you fear black/brown outs, live near a hospital. :D

I agree, I won't be able to afford any EV anytime soon and by then the batteries will be Solid state with longer range and sub 20 min charge times. People want 5 min charging and 1000 miles range right now. They have no patience in an emerging tech/conveyance industry.

we decided that having 2 vehicles that got under 20 mpgs just wasn’t right for our family, with the market so confused, we decided to cash in on the money we made on the 4Runner we bought last year. Traded for a Rav4 prime, which is an electric range of about 42 and hybrid gas range of 400 plus. So far we have about 1400 miles and have only filled up the gas tank once.

we shopped the Rav4 10 years ago, and no way would I have thought we would have ever considered one again. But this Rav4 prime zips around like a freaking go cart. I think it’s about 82 mph till the battery switches to hybrid.
I look forward to see what’s coming, but it will be some time before I’d buy a family trip vehicle that has just a battery.

I mean I guess once they start putting solar panels on these things, at least then you won’t need a 500 mile extension cord.

Well you can drive coast to coast in any brand EV, plenty of chargers along the way. But .at the current moment, such a trip is longer due to charge times. Just the way it is 'right now' and why people complain and trash EV's because they like to complain without facts.

No, I don't believe it has anything to do with that. Nobody wants to be told what to do, let alone being told what they're going to drive. So the government and all these flakebookers can shove it. People will transition when, and only when, it becomes appealing to them. If it never does then they're entitled to drive that 6mpg hot rod til the day they die.

When the entire country is only EV cars it will be a new millennium. So you'll be fine man. No one is forcing you to do anything right now.

Currently, I wouldn’t take an EV across the country. I couldn’t imagine having to be that planned out, even if I could Willy nilly the route and not be worried about finding chargers, to sit and wait for a charge, NO thanks.

this is why I love the Prime and think it’s a great in between. Shows folks what electric can do, great for around town and day to day operations. But, has Hybrid system so it still gets 400 miles to a tank of fuel, so your not stranded with no juice.

But there sure are a lot of folks who don’t have a problem telling you what to do though. I can’t go any further as it will start a political debate, but I will say we have been told what to drive for many many years, it’s just who has been in charge of those decisions, I think about the tucker and how that never was an option for folks.

the government current has many rules around what we drive now, safety features, cafe restrictions…

    Ironic isnt it?
At least we still have people around who can build a pretty badass tucker, even if it's not mass produced.

It would certainly be simpler if people took their responsibilities as serious as their rights and stopped confusing them with prerogatives. Do whatever the fuck you please is nowhere in the constitution. Grow up should be but isn’t, social media is proof of that.

My Granddaddy had a saying that was probably the best advice I was ever given.

"You may not like the rules but it's the only game in town"

I got news for ya... nobody is entitled to do squat. If you can't buy gas anymore you won't be driving your gas guzzling whatever anywhere. Nobody will care.

Personally IDGAF. It's not like personal vehicles for daily transport are going to be a thing for much more than a decade or so. Pretty soon it'll be like calling an UBER but a self driving EV will show up and take you wherever you need to go for a small fee. That and public transport that doesn't suck which our country has never done well. I've traveled around the world quite a bit and we're a f-ing backwater when it comes to investment in our own people. Sure, we can fly a bomb through a window that was dropped from a jet 50mi away but at the end of the day, I'll take legit bullet trains and reliable public transport that's efficient and plentiful enough that it's easy and quick to use. I loved not having to own a car. Saved me a ton of money and headache trying to find parking.

lol. What year is gas becoming obsolete again? You're even more out of touch than the rest of the loonies. Feel free to move to NYC or any other dump where cars arent necessary. You won't have to ever buy gas again.
