2 front brakes, lost the main line from the booster to the rear axle. Pinching it off wouldn't do anything, there was no fluid left in the rear half of the resovoir. It was a mile or so, mostly through my neighborhood at 10-15 mph. Had two auto parts stores less than 1/8 mile from the entrance of my neighborhood, Auto Zone and Advance, Napa was another half mile down the road.

Had a 1976 VW Rabbit and the Master Cylinder failed with some kind of internal leak, zero pedal but was able to stop using the handbrake to get it home.

There are multiple ways to stop these trucks but it depends on what failed to start.
If you lose all your brake fluid then your only option is e brake or rub the truck against something to scrub off speed.
If you lose power, then pushing real hard on the brake pedal works, e brake works and of course scrubbing speed by rubbing your truck on a guardrail.

I know for a fact that throwing it in park at speed does nothing. However, and somebody else can test this, I think a really low speeds, like one mph, putting it in park will stop the truck... now.

But yeah, you always have options to bring you to a stop. You just can't panic. Panic means crashes.

Best to shift into neutral and use the e brake if the brakes fail. You could steer into a curb to slow down too but likely will fuck up tires and wheels but better than a complete crash.
