What would you do? Would you ask for new wheels? They offered to have a wheel repair guy look at them to see if he could fix them but I’d have to leave my truck there for an undisclosed amount of time. I don’t trust them any longer and won’t let anyone touch it at this Toyota dealership. I’m sure some of you guys have had this happen, how were you compensated?

Take it back to the dealership and ask for the service manager. If you can get new wheels out of it, even better

Thats pretty bad for just mounting tires..... I think they need to make it right, repair or replace. If they need to keep it for any length of time they need to get a rental lined up for you too. (or agree that the damage was caused by them so if you bring your truck back when they DO have a wheel guy available to look at it, they dont try to say some of the damage was caused by you)

I would at least let them look at and then hear what they have to say/offer.

I feel your sentiment of not wanting to go back to that dealer, but if they’re the ones who messed up your wheels then they should be the ones to fix it. I’d assume another dealer isn’t going to fix another dealers mistake.

Nothing. All tire shops have a disclosure stating they’re not responsible for wheel damage during tire mounting process. Not to sound like a pessimist, but you probably have no leg to stand on in this instance.

I would be irate and demand new wheels. I just ordered new TRD Pro rims online and 1 was received with a small chip so small you can barely see it and I demanded a return and replacement. You go to a dealer expecting top of the line service and end up with this. A local mom and pop shop would take better care.

That’s understandable, I just dont want them touching my truck. I can’t imagine what would happen leaving it in their lot for a week or two while the wheels are being repaired. Dents, dings, scratches. Who knows what would happen. I know it’s just a truck and not a Ferrari, and honestly the scratches don’t even bother me. It’s the principle to me. So sick and tired of shady dealers and their bull$@&).

Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.
Looks like you may have had your truck used as training in tire mounting by the LMTP*.

    Edit:
I would voice my displeasure to the service manager and ask what he/she would do to rectify the situation.

Ugggh that sucks. Im so thankful my buddy has a tire machine at his home shop. Would hate to go thru that nonsense at a dealership. Warranty or recall work is the only reason I set foot in dealerships.
That stuff has happened to me too many times in the past.

fyi: before i let the dealership have it (sometimes i have to) i run around the truck with the phone camera and take a pic of every cosmetic inch, inside and out.
only takes a few mins. if they damage something, you can prove they did it. i have had some minor dings not worth fighting over but it was enough to know to protect myself.

I'm thinking unless you have before pics you are shit out of luck. This is why I take pics of them right before I have them installed, rotated and balanced anywhere! I had the last place that did my install and rotation and balance choking when I cracked out the phone and said nope here are the pics taken in your parking lot right before I came in here pay up sucker!

I hear ya, I really don’t care about the wheels themselves. Its just not right to let a scumbag dealership get away with this. You live and learn I guess

Go back. My dealer did it to mine. Both my oem and my aftermarket ones. They ended up eating the 900 cost of new tires for the remounting. They wanted to fix. I said no thanks

A good shop will have the proper bars for unmounting mounting tires with nylon ends

That is some nasty damage for just mounting tires.

they'd owe me new unscratched wheels. used or new as long as they looked like what I brought in.

I always do a thorough walk-around with the service manager and make sure they notate that there is NO damage and if it comes back otherwise, it's on them, I'm always nice about it and have never had an issue.

Let the dealer's contractor do the repair. Wheel repairs occur quite often on new vehicles before delivery without being disclosed to the buyer. The end result is usually indistinguishable to the untrained eye.

If you plan to take these wheels off road, don't bother. I specifically picked matte black with my current wheels because it's easier to touch up scratches with a paint pen.

Agreed. Wheel repairs are very common...and usually will look better than the manufacturer. I would take the wheel repair offered by the dealer. It is third party so they can't quote an exact time. If the looks don't matter to you, call around and get a market average for repair and try to settle with the dealer parts department.
