Weight savings and less dangerous if it breaks.

Yes, seriously, weight savings. My bumper weighs over 100 lbs. Add a winch and it’s getting to the point I wont be able to manage reinstalling it by myself without mechanical help. That and as he said safety- if the line breaks it doesn’t carry the energy steel does, it floats on top of water, it doesn’t fray metal barbs and is generally a lot easier to work with.

Downside it degrades over time as it gets wet and is exposed to sun and is expensive to replace.

Yes, weight IS important. These little tacomas don't have unlimited weight capacities. Every ounce does add up. I cringe when I see these fully built "overlander" rigs with slide out kitchens, RTTs, awnings, and all sorts of other shit.

One guy posted that he has 33's, skids, bumpers, and a bed cover (not even an RTT) on and he was scarily close to GVWR without passengers or camping gear. He actually weighed his rig, most people don't. I guess they think their truck is a flat rate shipping box form USPS: if it fits, it ships.

But beyond that, there's also the issue of dragging it up a hill 12x a day. A steel cable will get tiresome after a while. Synth is just easier to handle.

And this is coming from a guy who doesn't use synth line.

third vote for weight savings... even with the power out feature, someone has to drag 75' of cable around.

If the difference between wire rope and synthetic line is of any significance, you have the wrong vehicle.

ill start off with the Tacoma because it is easier to maneuver into tight areas but when the winch drags the truck with 4 wheels chocked Ill go get the diesel and even then she has been defeated a couple of times. oh well, more digging, more soaking the ground.

If you insist a person using wire rope makes them better at using a winch than someone with synth line then you are ignorant.

I ain’t no kid, doing recoveries on farm equipment (10 tons not 2-1/2) and wheeling and wrenching on vehicles since I was a kid and 25 years plus of hands in the dirt construction says I know how to use leverage and know when chain, cable, recovery strap or rope are appropriate.

Crack a book on the subject and see what experts say before you pop off like an off-road god

Are you likely to notice the difference with this ONE part? Of course not.

But as I said, it all adds up.

But if you make a habit out of not caring how much all your shit weighs, you end up with a stupid heavy vehicle.

Check out the third gen Brocoma dude who clearly hasn't wheeled before. Go back to the turd gen section and leave the men alone.

Nobody I know who wheels their shit on black trails in East TN uses steel cable. There is literally no point in using steel when you use a winch 0.01% of the time, so lugging around all that excess weight driving around is just stupid.

I replaced my steel cable on my old rig with synthetic. The steel cable weighed 25lbs. I know because I weighed it after i took it off the winch. Ill gladly remove 25lbs from the front suspension if i can.
The tacoma is getting a slimline full plate bumper, but also a suspension upgrade. Ill still use synthetic winch rope.
