Hello, I have recently purchased a 2012 Tacoma, I'm trying to figure out who offers the best extended warranty for over 100K miles. Has anyone used an extended warranty company that has had positive experiences? The only reviews that ever pop up for these companies are all negative. Thanks!

I’m gonna go ahead and say I think it’s a waste of money, these trucks are stout and you likely won’t encounter any mayor issues that you can’t tackle with a YouTube video and a few beers in your own driveway

Don’t do it. Only beneficial if you bought a lemon or poorly maintained.

Welcome to TW…The bad reviews are there for a reason. I’ve had 3 Tacoma’s and other than the frame on my 2000, I’ve had no major issues with any of them.

I agree with the responses above. Save your money and buy a few tools and start researching on here/turning wrenches. If you can't do it, there is likely someone nearby that would be willing to assist.

To actually answer OPs question, the only one I would consider is direct from Toyota. AFAIK, none the third party stuff is worth it.
If you are planning on making a lot of mods to the truck, consider that they won't be covered. Depending on what changes you make, it may affect warranty status of related parts.

No aftermarket warranty provider is worth a hoot. And Toyota isn't gonna sell you one of theirs on a 9 year old ride.

You're better off to 'self insure' by setting aside the $ you'd pay for one of those scams and use it when you have to.

And find a good independent mechanic to do work you're not comfortable doing yourself.

    1. Get a few quotes for an extended warranty.
    2. Average the quotes and set up an automatic draft into a savings account for that amount.
    3. Enjoy the car maintenance fund you just created. (Self-insurance)

There are a few systemic items on these trucks each typically costing $1000+ to repair - secondary air injection pump, leaking steering rack, leaking timing cover, etc. Make sure the extended warranty covers those. Check if the policy has a deductible and any yearly/lifetime limits.

Thanks everyone! I can do a lot repairs myself but my tool selection and garage space is limited as I am not a mechanic by trade. I really like the idea of just self funding my own warranty savings acct as I was planning on paying for the warranty outright anyway, so I have decided not to go with a warranty and instead setup a savings acct for repairs with the money I was going to spend. Appreciate the input and good ideas as I also want to make mods to this truck.

Agree with the above, you will likely be money ahead in the long run and if you have no major repairs you have a nice rainy day fund for any other unexpected expenses.

You’re way better off finding the top master Toyota mechanic, that isn’t a dealership, in your town. Find a family place where the owner works on the cars himself. Get a multipoint general inspection and always go for OEM parts. Toyota’s are the most reliable vehicles out there and easy to work on. They are very predictable. There’s no need for extra insurance. Save that for the dodge ram’s.
