Wow, this thread scares me. I just took my truck in today, to get the factory alarm system, and also get that paint treatment, and interior treatment they offered. The paint and interior thing was free, as was the tow hitch, and 7 to 4 plug.

If I ever needed to disconnect the battery, will this same thing happen with the factory alarm?

Unfortunately, I couldn't tell you for sure, but I would assume not. Whatever I did was some fluke combination or something because I could not repeat it. Since this thread, I've disconnected my battery several times, and each time I reconnect, good to go. I hope this never happens again, nor to anyone else because I haven't been able to reproduce the problem to try and troubleshoot (not that I'm necessarily trying....)

I've decided to never disconnect the battery for any reason other than replacing it. Seems like there's too many bad things can happen. My old Lexus GS300 the battery went dead a couple times and as soon as I got it started again it would start throwing codes with the fuel system. They were all bullshit, there was nothing wrong, but I had to buy an OBDII to clear the codes and then it was fine.

Dunno, man. For some folks OK, for me I don't bother. If I was changing my starter out, yeah I'd disconnect the battery. Alternator, yeah, the ECU, yeah. Other than those three I wouldn't bother. All the systems are protected by fuses, pull the fuse don't disconnect the battery. Removing the ground lead was the safe thing to do years ago, nowadays I don't think that is the safe thing..

Hello, idk if anyone's still here and I don't have a Tacoma but I just bought a 2005 toyota sequoia limited 4.7l and I just disconnected the battery to simply clean the terminals and now it won't start and when I put an engine starter on it the horn starts going off. Anyone have an easy fix for me instead of me trying multiple things that don't work smh

If the horn is honking, it's some kind of alarm system. If the key fob doesn't deactivate it, when it's honking, try locking the door and unlocking it with the key.

I know it’s been some time since the last post on this thread but I just had the issue of no start and alarm going off after disconnecting the battery. Not sure what alarm system I have since I bought the truck second hand. Procedure:
-Before connecting battery unplug horn fuse so your ears don’t suffer
    -Reconnect battery
-Insert key turn to on position
-Turn to off position and remove key
-Reinsert key and turn to on position
-Press red flashing button once and it should stop flashing
-Alarm is now is disengaged and truck should start
