I slacked in changing my cabin air filter. My cabin filter got changed I think at 20,000 miles, Now I'm at 50,000 miles when I thought about it. IMG_5289.jpg

Filter is there for a reason, most likely you've scored your lungs with dust particles, you'll need a transplant soon. Better get your affairs in order

The cabin air filters in Toyota vehicles seem to catch a lot of dirt fairly quick. If your in the woods a lot they plug up like this in a couple months it seems. I bought a washable K&N CABIN filter recently so I can keep a clean filter without buying one twice a year or more. I hope it comes clean easily and holds up. Seems solid.

I went with Denso. My thought being that it is probably the same as stock. I am hesitant to use carbon filled or other extra fine filtering type of filters because I suspect they will hinder the air flow.

In not changing my filter my face ended up all covered in tree jizz, like a mother nature money shot.

I too was using Denso replacements before the K&N. they where great for the price. The carbon filters do sometimes add a bit of restriction which you can hear and feel. I was worried about that with the washable filter as well, but it seems to be the least restrictive of the ones I’ve used thankfully.

I had my 20,000 mile service on Tuesday. I read through the manual on what they are going to do and noticed it said they’re going to replace the cabin air filter.

Before I went in I took a picture of the glovebox and another as soon as I got my truck back. Andddd they’re identical. So I pulled the filter out myself and noticed it had not been changed. On the invoice it’s listed that it was changed and that it was $19.99. Called them up and told them that they’re welcome to give me the filter and I’ll change it myself. The manager is supposed to be calling me back on Monday.

I know it seems petty but at my 10,000 mile the tech didn’t tighten the drain plug all the way and I ended up with a low oil light two days after service. And now this. I definitely wasn’t rude, I just told them that it’s said that it was done in two spots on the invoice and that it definitely wasn’t.

Once I’m out of warranty I’ll be doing everything myself, but I still want it done right while under warranty!

I put a "cleanable" filter in mine after discovering that pack rats could easily get in on top of it and leave a calling card or three. I also got into the cowl and put a screen over the vent opening to slow them down a bit. So when the truck was in for service and the cabin filter was on their list - I told the service advisor NOT to fool with it - was very plain about it. Three weeks later I decided to pull the aftermarket filter out to clean it - and found that they had thrown my re-usable filter away and replaced it with that Toyota POS....... Where do they get these service people? Should have put a padlock on the glove box too.....

They also seem to be hell on wiper blades - twice (that I know of because I had checked them myself before taking the truck in) they managed to tear the wiper tip on the passenger side "just checking". Mysteriously the driver side tips were fine on both occasions. They then advised me the blades were bad and needed replaced. This last time I was told I needed to have the front brakes replaced - and when I checked the mud on the lugnuts - there was no sign they had been disturbed. Must have X-ray vision or something like that.

Charged for a Cabin Filter you didn't get and a Tech unable or unwilling to put a torque wrench on your Drain Plug...... Doesn't sound like it's getting done right by the dealer.

I vacuum my cabin filter pleats every time I vacuum the interior. It's very easy to get to and remove. Makes the filter last much longer and the debris that is removed would quickly build up if left unattended.

Drain plug doesn't even need to be on that tight ya know? Little tug with a wrench past hand tight and it'll be fine. That tech likely just hand tightened it and said "good enough"

I am all but certain that my two front U joints did not get greased during the free Toyota service. At 30,000 miles I found the U joint close to the front axle to be almost without grease and the U joint that is by the transfer case was almost completely dry.

I just changed mine. It was original (1.5 years old) and looked much like yours. I replaced it with a Fram but have yet to drive the truck to see how it affects the airflow.

I now have a noticeable increase in air volume out of the vents.

I spray some some Fabreeze on the new cabin filters before installing them.
Gives it that fresh smell for a couple of days.

Not that bad for 30000 miles. I've seen way worse. Mouse nests, absolutely plugged, Honda had a metal bar blocking the removel and many times I seen them come in with almost no air volume and at hundred thousand plus miles on them.
